JFK to Midtown by Subway - Help Needed

I have spent a lot of time on the MTA website and have been unable to quite figure out how to take the E subway from JFK. Do I need to go to Howard Station? I will be flying in on United during rush hour and the E stops a block from my hotel so I just need to get from terminal 7 (I think that is United) to where I can catch the E. Thanks for advice!

From terminal 7, you can take the Air Train to Station D - Jamaica Station and catch an E train. Or you can go to Station A - Howard Beach and catch an A train (which is an express and is sometimes faster) and then transfer to the E depending on where your hotel is.

Thank you, thank you. This is exactly what I needed to know. Funny it was so hard to find on the website. I am staying at the Waldorf so it is much easier to take the E to 53rd and Lexington and not have to make a transfer. Thanks again for info.

You should call the Waldorf and see if they have a free shuttle to the airport. It's much easier than the subway.
