Jazz Music in greenwich village
In New York on weekend before Christmas - any recommendations for good after dinner clubs with piano/jazz/impromptu music in Greenwich. Also, any suggestions on best way to see New York in a couple of hour bus tour and from where (staying near Grand Central on 42nd St.)

I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. I checked online, and at the Vanguard (www.vanguard.net) it will be Roy Hargrove with the Cedar Walton Trio. Not a bad lineup at all.
At the Blue Note, the Manhattan Transfer are doing two shows that night, and the late show is the Jennifer Hartswick Band. Could be fun too.
The Knitting Factory has a ska/swing/reggae/rock back called the Slackers. Doesn't sound appealing to me, but they might be great. It is a cool venue.

whispers, I'd pick a place based on who's playing (and maybe factoring in cost ) There are a number of ways to find out who's playing where. bigapplejazz.com is one website I've found, but there are others if you do a webs search for jazz AND nyc.
You specified the village, but there is now very good jazz all over the city including a few places in the theater district (Iridium and Birdland).
IMO, there is no really good way to see the city in a few hours at that time of year b/c traffic is so bad, any type of ground transportation will be sitting still a lot. You might consider the night time city lights tour. That could be fun at that time of year.

Arthur's Tavern on Grove Street in the Village. Fun place! My BF took me there on our first date after we had dinner at Il Faro. I've recommended it to friends visiting me & they liked it too. There's no cover. Read reviews on newyork.citysearch.com.
