Jazz/Blues in NYC

Looking for some suggestions on where to catch some good grooves. Would love to hear about favourite haunts and also if anyone has been to the gospel brunch at BB King's. As always, many thanks for any advice.

The Blue Note on West 3rd is still probably the top jazz club in NY. Depending on who is playing that night, it may be difficult or even impossible to get in without a reservation. Expect to spend $200 for two on the table reservation, dinner, drinks, etc.

I personally like the laid-back atmosphere of Terra Blues on Bleecker (a 2-minute walk from the Blue Note). It's a lively place, usually no cover and they have some really good music.

Jazz Standard is also great, if you want to chow down before the show.
When will you be in NY? (You need to check the listings to see who is playing when & where..)

It really does depend on who is playing but I like; Village Vanguard, Iridium, Sweet Basil, and Smoke along with Blue Note.

I haven't been to Terra Blues so I can't comment.

BB Kings to me, seems like the Disneyfication of a blues club. Sort of like House of Blues not that I haven't seen good jazz and blues at HoB.

Saw the Seven Blind Men or Blind Men in concert at HoB and they knocked my socks off. Those old guys can sing!

As always, you guys really come through! Many thanks for all the suggestions. We will be in town this weekend - Nov. 30-Dec. 2 so may have to just take what we can get. Nice to know where we should start though. Thanks also for info. on BB King's - 'twas as I suspected.
