Jackson, Wy or Jackson Hole
We (3 spouses) have invited ourselves to be "tag alongs" on our husbands fall fishing trip to Yellowstone. They will be driving from Maryland and we will fly into Jackson Hole. At this time the guys are planning for a total of 2 weeks. More than likely we will not be spending the entire trip with our husbands so will need to develop our own itinerary for aprox 5 of the 10 days.
The first 3 or 4 nights will be in Jackson or Jackson Hole. Suggestions for which location would be more suitable. Exploring the idea of 3 bedroom house or condo for accommodations. Other suggestions appreciated
Activities will include: golfing, sightseeing in GTNP, rafting on Snake River, short hikes,
photography and enjoying the local people and lifestyle. We will continue our travels into Yellowstone. We are all 65+ day of arrival Sept 6th. Thank you for help in planning our itinerary.

Jackson is the town. Jackson Hole is the valley, with Jackson at the tip of the valley. The valley isn't that long. If you are going to be active (golf, sightseeing, rafting, hikes, etc) then any location in the valley (including the town) will work for you. A house would be a great idea. Check out vrbo.com for possibilities.

There are some lovely VBRO homes... JAckson Hole area, which is the ski resort, gondola with a fabulous view of the valley and hikable trails (at high altitude).
JAckson the town is about 15 minute drive.
If you want to consider Lodges, Snake River Lodge. a RockResort with a great pool, spa and restaurant is my rec.

I concur with starrs. Jackson is a small town within the valley known as Jackson Hole. The activities that you visit the area for are throughout the valley (rafting, hiking, etc), so any location within Jackson Hole usually works well. The town of Jackson does have most of the restaurants and shops so that can be convenient if you plan to do a lot of those types of things, though it's a pretty quick trip from anywhere else in the valley.
As far as VRBO properties go, short-term rental is only allowed in certain parts of the valley, namely Teton Village and the Aspens, which is why you will find most of the homes and condos there (many of the owners will refer to their location simply as Jackson Hole because listing a specific neighborhood isn't that helpful to someone who doesn't know the difference). There are some people that illegally do short-term rental in the town of Jackson, but the town is trying to crack down on this.
Have a great trip!
