Horseback riding in Jackson Hole?

Hi there-

DH and I have arranged a glorious trip to Jackson Hole, Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons in a couple months.

We're just about done with all the planning for them, the last thing we need to do is arrange for horseback riding while they are in JH for one day.

I've done a bit of looking on the web and found there's a bunch of companies.

Has anyone had any personal experience that they would be willing to share?

TIA!

My husband and I have done horseback riding 2 times in the Tetons. We loved it and used the same company both times. I can't think of the name of the co., but we left from the Jackson Lake Lodge. I think only one co. operates out of there. We took a 2 or 3 hour ride. It was really gorgeous!

We actually want to organize it out of Jackson Hole, but thanks for your input!

BostonGal,
I don't understand your response.
Jackson Hole is the valley.
Jackson is the town.

In other words, do you want a horseback riding trip that originates in town? I'm not sure you will find that.

starrsville - I apologize for the confusion.

My inlaws will be spending a couple days in Jackson, a couple in GTNP and a couple in YNP. I didn't want them to have to travel up into either park since they're headed to both later on in the week, but I've heard that there were some outfitters that lead riding trips more in the Jackson area - through the woods, by the ranches, etc.

But maybe I misunderstood? Will they need to drive up towards or into the Tetons to find outfitters?

Not sure why you wouldn't want to drive 20 miles or so (and then back) for a recommended riding vendor, but if you don't....

Go to www.google.com
Choose maps
Choose find businesses
Enter horseback riding
See what vendors are available closer to town. Keep in mind that the 2 that show up "in town" are due to PO Box addresses. They are actually located outside of town.

Maybe you can cross reference the ones that show up closer to town with their websites and customer comments. If no one else has a Jackson recommendation, that may be your best bet.

I, for one, would rather ride in the hillside or mountains outside of town than the immediate area surrounding town, but that's my preference.

Be sure to "saddle up" at the Cowboy Bar IN TOWN. Instead of barstools, you have saddles at the bar. That's the only "sadding up" I'd do in Jackson proper

Thanks starssville, I'll just ask ILs what they prefer first before I book anything.

If heading to the Tetons is the only way to go, I'd still love some personal recommendations (company/outfitter names) if possible.

I'll include a note to them about the Cowboy Bar, thanks for the suggestion!
