Itinerary: Seattle/OP/Victoria/SJ Island loop

I am planning a late summer trip to the Seattle area with my husband and 6-yr-old daughter. The time that is best for us is Labor Day weekend and the first week of Sept, but are we crazy to attempt ferry connections over a 3-day weekend? In an effort to take the road somewhat less traveled, here is my proposed itinerary:

Aug 29-30 Fly from L.A. to Seattle, sightsee Seattle for 2 nights

Aug 31-Sep 1 Edmonds ferry to Kingston, drive to OP for 2 nights (Hoh rainforest, tidepools, etc)

Sep 2 Pt Angeles ferry to Victoria

Sep 3 BC ferry to San Juan Island

Sep 4 Ferry to Anacortes, return to Seattle

Sep 5 Museum of Flight in morning, fly home in late afternoon

We may be able to move up the departure date to Aug 28, to gain an extra day in Victoria or SJI, but definitely have to return by Sep 5.

Note that we are much more nature lovers than city people. We will rent a car but hopefully not until we are heading out of Seattle for the OP.

Feedback on the itinerary and any holiday weekend travel insights would be much appreciated.

Curious why you picked the Edmonds ferry to Kingston rather than the Seattle ferry to Winslow on Bainbridge Island. Most people in Seattle go to Winslow to get to the OP.

You should go to Hurricane Ridge on the OP. The Hoh Rain forest will be a drive with our daughter. With such limited time, you might want to stay at Lake Crescent and just enjoy being there.

Appreciate your question - that's why I am here! No good reason for picking the Edmonds ferry, other than it looked a bit more direct on the map I have been referring to. Also, with all the discussion here about how popular Bainbridge has become, I thought that (Bainbridge) might be the busier option.

There's often a lot of traffic on I-5 up to Edmonds, which is why, I think, most people just go to Winslow. The terminal is right downtown for that run and very convenient if you are staying in Seattle.

Winslow sounds like the way to go. Thanks!
