Is Fox Rent A Car any good?

Fox car rentals far as I am concerned are crooks, unethical and deceiving. I told the rental agent that I did not need any additional insurance on my car rental and was charge for it anyways. I have filed a complaint with Florida's Atty. Gen. office about their deceptive and unethical practices. This is a company that you should never do business with.

I wish I had taken the time to research Fox car rentals before using them. I reserved a car, a month in advance, for pick-up in San Jose. When I arrived, I was told there were no cars in the class I'd requested. I could get a lower class, which meant a smaller trunk, the reason I chose the specific size to begin with. The customer service was dismissive of my irritation as if whether or not my party's luggage would all fit was of no concern to him. Then, with no option, I took the smaller car but still had to pay for the more expensive one. I could request a 'refund' of the difference, 'if I wanted'. I was stuck! It turned out that I was just able to squeeze all of our bags into the car and it worked out okay, but I never did see the refund of the price differential. I will never use them again.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents. I rent cars maybe 1-2 times/year for personal use and used to do mystery shops on them. Fox is the only company I would NEVER rent from again, even though the advertised prices are tempting. Although it's been YEARS since I rented from their LAX location for a mystery shop, the things that stand out in my mind are:
1) really, really dirty car (disgusting)
2) front passenger seat belt didn't work, but I didn't discover that until the next day since I had picked up the car on my own. My passenger ended up having to sit in the back seat while I 'chauffeured'.
3) forgot some papers in the car when I checked it back in. Called them right away (within 10 minutes), but could never get through to anyone. Luckily, the papers weren't critical, so I just gave up.

We've rented car in San Francisco and dropped it in Los Angelos. Price was cheaper then any other company. I was searching a week. I've read forums that location is very bad - slow, rude personal. I prepared myself to wait and be patient. At my wonder it was no line and teller was very cooperative and look just happy. On other company's offices were lines of 5 to 10 people. Car was new 17,000 miles Toyota Corolla. Price for a week was $250 - cheapest I could imagine. I booked car online and price was about $350. But Fox returned $100 after I returned the car. I don't know why. Return was also done in few minutes. Only problem I can see Fox has only few locations now. Thanks Fox!

WARNING!!!!! THIS IS THE WORST RENTAL CAR COMPANY!! a friend and i rented from their Phoenix office. their initial approach to customer service should have been enough to turn us away but we thought it was simply this one guy with a bad attitude. wrong. our next step was to go downstairs to their check-out counter to complete the transaction. this guy didn't have any social skills and barely grunted to tell us which row our car was in. he didn't direct us to take a walk around the vehicle to check for dents, etc. but we took the initiative and he was greatly bothered that we had to take him away from his duty post to show him the dents on the passenger door. very rude to my friend throughout the entire transaction. we rented the car for a long weekend. while in las vegas i got sick and we had to return a day early. being a bit leary about them, we called Fox asking if there would be any fees and/or penalties for returning the car one day early. we were told we would be charged $10.00 for each day used! we called twice to confirm this. their company does not credit your account for one day, it charges you a penalty for each day their vehicle is USED! we kept the car for another day. upon returning it, the two women closing out the rental told us we would have been credited for the early return, the phone number we called tells all customers the wrong procedure and we should have called their local number, which they never answer -- she said this. what??? we will never use Fox car rental again. ever.

I may never use Fox Rent a Car again in my life, if I can help it. Here is exactly why.
1. Difficult to reach at toll-free numbers. Six tries. One success. Five disconnects.
2. Rude and impatient at the SJ Airport. Rude and impatient on the phone at the toll-free numbers.
3. Billed at the same rate I was quoted, but BIG surprises when I came to return the car: all kinds of extra charges tacked on that we did not expect, resulting in double what we were led to believe we'd pay.
4. Three weeks after I turned in my rental car, I received a charge on my bank card (that I used to pay for the car) for a toll in New York--WHILE I WAS IN OREGON AND DIDN'T HAVE THE CAR ANY LONGER.
In short: F*CK this car company. Their customer service is deplorable, and they do not bill as they lead you to believe. Their insurance and handling fees are twice as high as anyone else's.
My advice: stick with the well-knowns, like Enterprise, Budget, Hertz, and so on. These guys have never "steered" me wrong, but Fox should be called F*cks. Not Fox. They're awful, awful, awful.
And, by the way, I'm sorry, but it's silly to say "Gosh, I can't imagine where all the bad reviews are coming from, because there are also good ones." Well, sister, open your eyes. Fox is a crapshoot.
Good luck...

I DO NOT RECOMEND THEM! THEY ARE CHEAP ...AND WHEN I MEAN CHEAP I DO NOT REFER TO THE PRICE...BUT I MEAN LACK OF CARE FOR THE CUSTOMER , LACK OF PROFESIONALISM AND INDIFERERENT TO PEOPLE'S NEEDS. THEY WILL ADD CHARGES AND WILL NOT DISCLOSE ALL THE HIDEN CHARGES...
SO CUSTOMERS BEWARE !!!

This first paragraph is about Payless Rental. I booked a weekly rate with them about three months ago for a midsize car. Upon our arrival at the San Diego Payless airport location, we were immediately asked what size car we reserved and we replied that we have a midsize car reserved. Payless advised us that they were sold out of all cars, but had two Dodge Chargers (which is a full size) left if we wanted to pay the difference. I advised Payless that it wasn’t fair. I stated that when I’ve had sold out situations with other car rental vendors and they have given me free upgrades to larger car sizes at no cost to me. Payless advised me that they would not do this and they would give us a shuttle to Fox Car Rental. In hindsight I wish I would have just taken the Dodge Charger. Before boarding the shuttle to Fox, I asked if the rates would be the same at Fox. I was advised that they should be the same and if not they will compensate me for any differences.
When I arrived at Fox I explained that we were sent over to them by Payless. I assumed they already had an agreement set-up to honor our reservations. The Fox representative #1, asked me if Payless made a reservation for me already which I replied that they didn’t. The Fox representative advised me that they could only charge me the “walk up rate” of $36/day. I immediately called Payless back and asked how they planned on reimbursing me for the difference. The Payless representative stated the rates should be the same and created a booking in his system for me at the same rate, but instead booked me a compact car instead of midsize. After the reservation was booked, I was told by Fox that I had to wait 20 minutes for the reservation to appear in their system.
Finally after waiting, we were told by another Fox Representative #2 that the reservation was now in their system. As we approached her desk of Fox Representative #2 advised us that she can’t help us and that she’s leaving for the day and to go down and someone else would need to help me. The Fox Representative #2 asked another Fox Representative #3 to assist us with the reservation and that representative was upset that she had to assist us and got on the phone to call the Fox Representative #1 to get off break and finish helping us. As the lady was walking out, she told that representative to help us. Soon the Fox Representative #1 was finished with his break and the Fox Representative #3 who was helping us asked him if he wanted to finish. The Fox Representative #1 took over the reservation and the Fox Represenative #3 proceeded to badmouth her coworker (Fox Represenative #2) that left for the day stating that she “hates her”. I was shocked by the lack of professionalism displayed right in front of me, the customer. I should have walked out at this point, but I didn’t. After finally completing the paperwork, I went to retrieve my car and saw that I was given a compact car. After traveling all day long I was done arguing and just took the car, which was a Ford Focus.
We drove 15 miles to our hotel and the whole way there I felt like something was wrong with the car. It seemed like the gears were grinding when I accelerated. I looked down a couple times to make sure that the car was in “drive” as opposed to the low gear. We later went out to a restaurant 7 miles away and this time my friend drove, she also said the same thing that something was wrong with the car. At one point we were stopped at a red light on a slight slope and the car started to roll backwards! Thankfully my friend slammed on the breaks before we hit the car behind us. hat was the last straw.
When we returned to the hotel I immediately called Fox and spoke to their roadside assistance. I was told that they could have a tow truck come and take us back to Fox rental but if they determine that nothing is wrong with the car, I will be responsible for the tow charges. I explained to the representative that it was already past 9pm and I had been traveling all day long and come from the Central time zone. I did not want to wait for a tow truck and go back to Fox. I asked if they could just send me a new car in which she replied it wouldn’t happen until 1pm and again, I’d be responsible for any charges if they determine that nothing was wrong with the vehicle. At no point during this conversation did she offer an apology or seemed concerned with the fact that something was wrong with the transmission, which thankfully didn’t result in a major accident. I told her that I will call back the next morning.
The next morning I called and spoke to the manager of Roadside Assistance. The Roadside Assistance Manager stated that they were anticipating my car and that since I reported this less than 4 hours of renting my car, that they will take care of the issue. I informed the Roadside Assistance Manager that I did not want to rent another car from Fox and couldn’t believe they gave me that car in the first place. I also explained that I was scared to drive it back to the dealership. The Roadside Assistance Manager stated that he would send a tow truck out and would close out my account with “all fees waived”. The Roadside Assistance Manager stated that they should have only charged my card a $100 deposit fee that will be credited back the next business day.
My friend and I then reserved a car with Avis. After the tow truck hauled the Fox car away, we paid $60 in taxi fees to go back to the airport area to pick up our Avis car. The other nearby off-airport car vendors were more than twice as much as the cost of Avis. We had no problems with our Avis car and the customer service we received was top notch.
While waiting at the airport for my flight home, I decided to check my credit card statement. To my dismay, I saw that Fox had charged my card $279.46 on October 5, 2013 and only credited back $234.84 on October 6, 2013. That is a difference of $44.62. Although this wasn’t a huge amount, it made me angry and I feel that I already lost out enough from the taxi ride. I immediately called Fox Roadside Assistance and was advised that the Roadside Manager wasn’t in but would return the next day. The next day I called again and was told that Roadside Manager was not there but would be in the next day and they transferred me to his phone extension which did not have the voicemail turned on. On Saturday, October 12, 2013 I finally got a hold of the Roadside Manager and explained I didn’t get a full refund. The Roadside Manager looked at my rental agreement number and advised me that their mechanics looked at the car and determined there was nothing wrong with it so they charged me a one-day rental. I argued with the Roadside Manager and said that there was clearly something wrong with the car and he needs to refund me. The Roadside Manager again stated that the mechanics from Fox as well as another dealership stated nothing was wrong and perhaps the car was drove in the wrong gear! The Roadside Manager stated that they didn’t charge me for the inspection, as if I was suppose to be grateful for that. At this point I was angry and advised the Roadside Manager that I am not an idiot and know the difference between “D” for “Drive and “L” for “Low” gear. In fact, I the gear panel had the “L” below the “D” so I would have had to shift straight down for the low gear. I stated that I get rental cars all the time for business travel and never experienced this before and again asked him to refund me back the difference. The Roadside Manager once again refused to refund the money in which I replied that I’ll take this a step further on my side and I truly hope the next person that rents that silver Ford Focus doesn’t get into a car accident and/or injured.

Just rented from Fox 10 days ago from Oakland Airport in California. I returned the car one day early and was charged for 11 days instead of 10. I was also charged for RSA (roadside assistance) for 10 days....which I never authorized as I have AAA service. Questioning the people at the counters was of no use...they don't have any answers and just give you the run around. I went on line to submit a billing questionnaire form with my issues and the web site will not send the form. Tried to copy and past to e-mail it...no e-mail address. Tried to call and was transferred to a number that disconnects within a minute of waiting. Very Frustrating! But I will persisted.

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!
I had a confirmed reservation and arrived at their Tampa location within 1 hour of the reservation time and THEY HAD NO CARS!!! And I was not alone. There were several groups of people in the same situation, at least one of which made their reservation months in advance. They acknowledged my reservation, but gave me nothing but an apology.
This was just after Christmas, and there were no rental cars to be found in the area.
Btw, I was in town with my family for a funeral, not a pleasure trip.

FIRST AND LAST TIME I RENT FROM FOX RENTAL CAR. I think I had the worst rental car experience that I've ever had and I rent cars often.
Rented at SFO Airport. Took over an hour for them to find me a car in the Standard class. That's time at the counter while they were making phone calls trying to find a standard car.
When they got a car, it was a Chrysler 200, NOT a Standard size car, more like an Intermediate or Economy. Car had a Check Oil light all the time, tires were out of balance (didn't find out until we were on the highway), lots of scratches and broken parts on the vehicle. On top of that it had so little headroom in the car that I hit my head getting into it and I'm 5'2" tall! That's why I rented a standard, I like a roomier car that I don't have to awkwardly crunch my body to get into.
While I was waiting at the counter, they kept trying to up-sell me to a higher costing car. Other companies will give a higher car if they don't have your size. I mentioned that I wasn't having a very good experience with FOX and that it was my first time to try them. I told them that I was renting a car for a whole month in the Spring and this was their chance to impress me. They didn't and I cancelled that reservation. I will never use FOX again.

Fox Car Rental in SanDego Ca.When we got to the air port had to wait 30 mins.for their bus.Got to the counter to find all kinds of fees added that were not on the web sight.THE CAR was dirty,I had to stop at a C.V.S and get window cleaner&paper towels to clean windows so I could see, between 50 and 80 MPH the steering wheel would shake bad, when applying the brakes the wheel would shake more.I don't complain about things, but I think people should know before going with the cheap guy. Found out later other rental car places will match their prices.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
We're going to the Grand Canyon May 14, 2014. I made a car rental reservation with Fox online back in Sept 2013, as their prices seemed good. I received a confirmation via email and thought everything was set.
I looked at my VISA statement in January 2014 and there was a credit from Fox Rent a car. I couldn't find my reservation online, so I called the Phoenix location immediately. The service agent told me I had requested to cancel the reservation. I DID NOT REQUEST TO CANCEL MY RESERVATION, and they never sent me an email to notify or inquire if I had requested to cancel..
It's a darn good thing I noticed the credit on my VISA statement because I would have arrived in Phoenix to find myself car-less and my vacation all but ruined.
I reserved a car thru a Large national agency to insure my car is ready when I arrive.

WHATEVER YOU CHOOSE, STAY CLEAR OFF FOX-RENT-A -CAR!!!
I had the worst experience of my life, it may appear as your cheapest option, but don't be fooled
! Once you turn up at their counter, the online quote will easily get tripled and take massive proportions. I got charged directly on my card without even being informed in advance that I will get charged for add-ons i did not need, ask or want! (ie winter tyres in the middle of the spring, a 'compulsory' insurance, out off working hours fee, etc). To make matters worst, a deposit of 900$ has been charged with the promise of being reversed in max 1-2 days after returning the car. Its been two weeks now and nothing has been reimbursed! Chased them a few times by phone, but they stopped taking my calls! I should be lucky to see anything back!

Negative experience. Rented car from the Miami Airport branch of Fox Rent a Car and drove car for 2 weeks:
1) Located in an industrial part of town... a little spooky at night and not easy to find.
2) Wait to get reserved car was long ... 35 minutes or so.
3) I found out when I got there that my liability/comprehensive insurance (which covers rentals) could not be applied because I did not have proof of same. I had never been asked for this proof before, so did not have card with me. Thus $15/day extra for insurance that I already had.
4) When I drove to the checkout woman with the newly rented car I noticed that the side mirror was dirty to the point that it was useless at night. I asked the woman for something to clean it with and she replied in a rude manor that she had nothing to clean it with and turned away from me to chew gum and go back to her computer.
5) The next day I had occasion to drive into the morning sun after the car sat near the salt air. I was blinded by the lack of visibility through the windshield and hit the window washer ... which was 100% empty. I was blinded by the smudge in a dangerous traffic situation!!!
6) The total bill for the 14 days for a compact car (Toyota Corolla) + insurance was $763 = $54.50 /day.
