My Wife and I rented a Fox vehicle for two weeks inMay to tour COP, AZ, UT, & NV. Was leery at first as we had never heard of Fox. Picked car up in Denver and returned in Las Vegas. Was surprised Fox not located where other car remittals were at airport. Car provided was affordable compared to all other companies. Fox personnel at Denver were friendly and helpful. Car was clean, comfortable, and served us well in travels. When in Las Vegas, I checked online on where Fox turning was located. Was surprised to read very negative comments about Las Vegas Fox and since we were leaving late at night was concerned about being delayed and having to change transportation to get to airport. Found Fox facility to be very busy but was able to turn in car quickly, get receipt, and catch transport without problems. Noticed lots of people waiting for cars and workers were working frantically servicing cars for issue. Every employee was pleasant and courteous. I did not experience anything of the negative stuff that I read on line except that they appeared to need a lot more workers. Folks can complain about delays getting & turning in car and being at an offsite from airport but they need to stop and consider that to be at an airport and to add more employees would drive up the cost of rental a lot. FOR THE SAVINGS WE EXPERIENCED, A LITTLE INCONVENIENCE WAS WORTH IT. One thing I had seen people complain about was Fox's return of the $150 deposit. We had no problem with that and found it was back in our account by the time we flew home. Would definitely use fox again wherever available!

DO NOT RENT from Fox. Don't go NEAR THIS company. Went with Fox to save money. What a joke !!! Takes two shuttles to get to off airport location. Took forever to stand in line (over 45 min.) One customer stood and complained with service desk and two people walked out the door in the mean time. I would have walked out too but I pre-paid on CarRentals.com. Not the car size I paid to upgrade to. Dirty. Filthy seats and windows. Turned on A/C and car had engine issues with the A/C turned on in the 104 degree Nevada weather. NEXT: Car blows tire on Hwy 215 and pull off to parking lot where I, my newlywed husband, brother, sister-in-law and my Mother (who were only there in Vegas for 48 hours for my wedding), sat in the hot Vegas sun waiting over 2 1/2 hours for the tow truck to bring a replacement car because there wasn't a spare tire in the trunk. They DON'T even have a SPARE tire ! Just fix-a-flat in the trunk (which didn't work) My family had to call a taxi and pay $60 (plus tip) to make it to the airport on time. My husband and I waited for the replacement car. We called the Roadside assistance several times in the course of 2 1/2 hours and got several versions of how soon they were going to show up. After they did FINALLY show up, we got back to the rental desk just in time to demand that they take us to the airport (5 miles away) so that we didn't miss our flight. We sped to the airport and hurried through TSA and just made the flight before they closed the boarding doors (thanks goodness the plane was running late or we would have had to pay SW Airline $$ to catch a plane the next day).Called Fox the next day after we got home and they offered to pay for 2 days rental after a long argument , a total of $23.83 (not even enough to pay my brother back for his cost of the taxi, not to mention my embarrassment for picking this rental company). I have never had problems with other low cost rental companies like Advantage or Payless....please read other reviews besides Fodors. You will be sorry if you don't ! DON'T RUIN YOUR VACATION TO SAVE A FEW BUCKS !!!!

Positive review.
Like BGJimC (Jun 2014), I too was very skeptical; there's a lot of negative on this thread. And I don't doubt the veracity of the negative reviews - the venom seems authentic. But my experience with Fox was excellent.
I had seen the negative reviews, but Fox's rates were less than half of the typically brutal Denver airport pricing, so I took a shot. Could not have worked out better: a nearly new car, full tank of gas, a modest wait at the rental counter, a cordial and not overly-pushy rental agent, and very speedy return process. Don't know whether Fox is getting their act together or whether it's just the Denver location, but they've got my business in the western USA, at least until they mess up.

We rented in San Diego and returned to Las Vegas. Our experience was good. Our car was fairly new, and rental price was very good. The only thing I did not like is that they are offsite. In Las Vegas it took two shuttle buses to get to the airport. We were not expecting that and would have allowed more time had we have known.

Interesting that many of the negative comments on this elderly thread are from posters who have only made ONE comment, and it's on this thread.

It's been several years, but we used Fox in San Diego. We rented a car for just one day, and they tried to charge us quite a bit more than they quoted when my sister attempted to pay with her debit card rather than a credit card, which I found odd.

If you rent from Fox (well, from any rental agency, for that matter), be sure to read what you are signing. I was quoted an excellent rate for a two-week rental in LA, and I had no issues with the initial rental, the car, or the dropoff. However, when I reviewed my receipt after returning home, I saw that I had been charged $9 a day for LDW (loss-damage waiver) insurance, which I never asked for. ($9 x 14 days = a chunk of change) In fact, I specifically had told the rental agent that I did NOT want insurance. My fault for not reviewing my contract, which stated the charge for LDW. However, no other agency I've ever rented with has pulled this trick. It turned my positive experience at Fox into a major negative. I might consider renting with them again, if the price were right, but I would definitely read the fine print CAREFULLY.

I rented a car from Fox, next to Miami airport and I returned it with a full tank of gas. They told me that the system is down and can't print a receipt and they supplied me with a handwritten signed note that the car was returned in good condition, with a FULL tank of gas. When I received my credit card bill, there was a charge on it for $111.00, stating that I returned an empty tank. It took me a lot of energy and six months of time to fight this 'ripoff' charge. This Rental company, in that area, 3275 NW 24th Rd, Miami Fl 33142 are criminals and do fraudulent charges. Don't even think of renting a car from them. This is besides that the car was an old piece of junk and the person signing me in at my arrival was extremely rude. The only nice thing that I can say is that the driver of the shuttle was a very nice man.

AVOID Fox. Rented from SFO. Car was dirty.

Returned two days early, and ended up paying a big fee for returning early! (Most car companies give you money back for returning early.)

Customer Service was impossible to get on the phone, and then were total jerks about it..saying it "was in the contract".

Never again shall I return from them.

I recently (Aug. 14-21, 2014) rented a car from EasiRent/Fox-Rent-a-Car near Heathrow Airport (Sheraton Skyline Hotel) for 8 days. I rented it through Travelocity, where my quote was for $233 USD - all included. The final tally on my credit card bill was for $586 CDN (~$534 USD)! There were no extra charges for mileage or fuel. Where and how does EasiRent/Fox-Rent-a-Car account for this huge discrepancy? I am one very unhappy customer! To those considering renting from EasiRent/Fox-Rent-a-Car - please be advised, be wary! - Bob Soden

Stay Away. Horrible experience. I arrived late at SFO and they closed at 10pm ! Left a message that night and never got a response. Called the next day and they stated the contract is broken and were required to take the whole 9 days payment. Never saw a car or agent. No renegotiation or anything. Fox is owned by Avis-Budget. Presently have a stop on my credit card. Deceptive and unfair. They Aren't Even On BBB San Francisco.

ummm. Right next door where? You never even mentioned where this is. Is this the Fargo, North Dakota location?

And if you and your husband are so "weak" you can't say NO when being pushed to upgrade from $106 to $260, you shouldn't allow yourself to deal with businesses -- ever! Just say "no" or don't complain later. When you went back when the bumper popped out, what did they say? I'm sure you did that if it was bothersome, right? Most important -- make sure you never go near a timeshare presentation.

Never got a car, and was charged full ten days rental. Never got my money back. Beware. ..

Ummm, brinaflynnjr -- how was that listed on the bill? What kind of "fee" did they call it? You may have some point to make, but not even disclosing to us what the fee was for is not going to make the point very well.

Since I assume you had a copy of the contract, I assume you fought it -- perhaps easiest with the credit card company? How did that work for you?

Ummm. I had missed that last post from ricks1. You never got a car and yet you were charged and never got your money back?

These stories get more and more bizarre. And once again I have to ask, when you contacted your credit card, what did they say or do? This is usually pretty cut and dry for a credit card company.

Neo, why do you question that FOX has been a rotten experience for so many? Including us.

"Neo, why do you question that FOX has been a rotten experience for so many? Including us."

I haven't questioned that at all. And you say "including us" -- maybe I'm scrolling through this 5 year old thread too fast, but I'm not finding YOUR experience -- so I certainly haven't questioned that!

I just think when someone posts a complaint it would be good to explain what that complaint is -- particularly explaining when a car company added a fee of 40%, it would be worthwhile to hear what that fee was for -- or why they refused to return it and the credit card company wouldn't do that either.

Often when one company is much lower than another with their initial quote, it could be because they aren't including anything in the estimate -- but it gets added later -- like a drop off fee, for example, hidden within the body of the contract as "a one way fee may be added". So if the post is to help others, it is only meaningful if the poster tells us what that fee was. Get it? If the above poster came back and said "it was a drop off fee" his entire rant would be pretty worthless, as many companies do that and some just add it later -- that would be GOOD to know.

And the idea that someone never got a car at all but the credit card wouldn't even return their money -- (and who wouldn't attempt to do that?) -- then it seems there is something we aren't hearing here. Was it a prepaid rate and the complainer never cancelled. I'm sorry, but it's pretty easy to fight a charge for 10 days car rental if the car agency never gave you a car when you tried to get one. Do YOU believe that actually happens? If so, I'd be screaming about the credit card company as much as the car agency.

Meanwhile, it is really hard to take very seriously these vague posts from people who have registered here for the sole purpose of making some totally vague and unexplained rant, then disappear.

Thanks, Neo, I "get it". But it says something about Fox, that a 5-year thread is still getting complaints about them. Ask for more details, but don't discount the honesty of the posters, plz.

What poster did I discount the honesty of? I would like more details is all -- or at least an explanation.

By the way, regarding poster Ricks1 -- he clearly said ranted about Fox -- by name -- and claiming they had his money and won't return but, in the next post he said "My comments above were directed at Payless not Fox. Stay far away from Payless." I'm not sure at what point he became confused he was ranting about.

So of the two I questioned, apparently only one was actually about Fox -- but again did not give a "meaningful" or "explained" complaint.

Yes. That's what you always hear about Fox. I don't know how they can still be in business. They suck.
