interesting hotel in Milwaukee area?

We're going to Milwaukee in mid-April for a few days, and are looking for a hotel that is not a national chain, not the Pfister, and maybe even interesting? I grew up there but of course have never stayed in a hotel there. ARe there any b&b's?
Many thanks.

I love the Safe House spy bar. Have you been?

I stayed at the Hotel Metro downtown 8-9 years ago. It's retro, we had a corner suite, nicely refurbished. They have a nice bar/lounge with yummy long, crisp, breadsticks! I want to order a martini when you go there - and I don't even like martinis. ha.

The Ambassador Hotel has been restored to its Art Deco glory, and is beautiful.

There are a dozen or so B&Bs in Milwaukee. Here's a website: www.bedandbreakfast.com/milwaukee-wisconsin.html

What are you going to do? What do you hope to accomplish with the lodging selection?

The Hotel Metro would be a great choice, as you're right by some good restaurants and fun nightlife. The cafe and bar right in the hotel serves good food and has good drink specials on the weekends.

Another option to consider that is more like a B & B would be County Claire.

The Astor is old and tired and in sore need of a good cleaning. We booked in there as a wedding party and found more than a couple of issues, including the previous guests' soap bar in our shower.

The desk made no attempt to correct the problems, apologize, or appease.

You can do better.

That's too bad. Fourty years ago it was the height of opulence in Mke. Maybe they haven't done anything in the way of improvements in those 40 years! That's what I suspected though. TX
