The Inn at Bay Harbor is a very exclusive area. Pretty pricy. There are a lot of small towns around the area with shops and things to see. You are not far from the Mackinac Bridge and the island - plenty of tourist things to do there. Ride bikes, fudge, etc

I live in the area, and unless you want to stay at an "exclusive" resort, I don't think it is worth the extra money. It is on Little Traverse Bay/Lake Michigan, but only minutes from Charlevoix and Petoksey (north)and there is much more available for lodging at a better price in either town. Depending on when you are coming, their are tons of golf courses around (Bay Harbors is like in the $175.00/round range!) for a lot less. There is a terrific paved bike path that goes both north and south right in front of the resort, (you can rent bikes in town), also close to the Petoskey state Park with great sandy beaches (the only sandy beach at Bay Harbor is on their own man-made little lake)...also you are just 45 minutes from Mackinac Island (where Somewhere in Time was filmed...well worth a day trip with kids...no cars allowed on island..just carriages and bikes!) and also about an 1.15 hours to Traverse City, which is the biggest "city" in the area. It would help if you listed when you were coming...
