Information Overload!!!-Where to stay in N.O?

My fiance, by then my wife, and I will be visiting N.O. in the fall. I've spent countless hours pouring over reviews until my eyes are crossed and my head ringing! We're interested in the International House but would prefer something smaller, more intimate and just plain more N'awlins style. Can you help....please?!?!?

I highly recommend the Dauphine Orleans (www.dauphineorleans.com). Type the hotel name into the text search box and you will see a lot of posts about it.

I second the Soniat House recommendation. It's very intimate and the service is top-notch. I'd go back there in a second.

If you're interested in a Bed and Breakfast, try this - La Maison Marigny B&B on Bourbon. They have wonderful reviews!

To "x": Go away, it's time for you to go back to school and you make us tired.

Lafittes Guest House and La Maison Marigny are both nice!! I live in the 1200 block smack dab between both. Also try Bourbon Orleans Hotel. Everything else in the "cool" part of Bourbon is residential and off limits to visitors!

The Dauphine is a great place to stay, especially if you get the last suite on the left, ground floor in the wing across the street from the lobby. Partial walls still exist there from when it was a brothel (also w/ a nice size jacuzzi in room). Bayona is just up the street and is one of the the finest restaurants and very romantic. Maison Dupuy is wonderful also, but will be a step up in price.
Book Feelings( a short cab ride) and request a balcony table for another romantic evening and enjoy the pianist(wonderful food also). See you there if you're down for the last weekend in Sept.

To Mr. xxx you seem to only comment on my postings. Have you stayed at the Lafitte Guesthouse. It is beautiful and the staff is very helpful and respects you pri=vacy. Why dont yo ufind something better to do with your computer time than criticize my opions. I have been to New Orleans many times and know where not to stay as well who I think is the tops. Lafitte is the tops.

I can recommend the new Elysian Fields Inn near the French Quarter. We stayed there last week and the hosts, Greg and Sal, were just fantastic. The house is cool too.

Lafitte Guest House is absolutly wonderful. They have a suite at the top that is one of the highest places in New Orleans. And if the suite is full room 21 and 31 and balconies over Bourbon Street.
Just please, if they try to stick you in the Loft Room (Room 5) decline it! That room sucks! But every other room is amazing.. definatly consider that one.

I forgot to tell you why the Loft Room sucks! Who knows, you might like it. It is very plain and the stairs getting up to the second floor are a pain. However it is very far from the rest of the house and far from any neighbors. It is also two stories which is very cool. But if you want something with beautiful decor, skip this room and try another in the house. Though I haven't stayed there myself I've heard room 40 is the best, especially for honeymoon type things. Very private, very cool..

Just came back from NO. Also had the same trouble as you. I tried to read every opinion, but could not seem to get a good consensus on one hotel. I ended up going to NO and getting advice from a waitress in Misissippi. Long story, It turned out to be great. The hotel is Historic Bourbon Orleans, sisters with Wyndam hotels. It is styled in the lavish LA nawlins style that was once apparent. The rooms were clean. The only thing to mention was that they are mentioned in the top haunted sites, as per TLC or discovery channel. We did not have any hauntings to report though. It was located right behind Jackson square, in a decent area to wander at night. Oh, the bellman were very helpful as far as guiding us to great places to eat. Enjoy...
