Go to www.biddingfortravel.com . Check out the NYC hotels board, and get a sense of prices on Priceline. How about under $100/night for the Grand Hyatt? You're going to work a bit at understanding the information before you bid. But for that kind of savings....

I stayed in Midtown East at the Grand Hyatt 2 weeks ago using Priceline. You can't find a better value. Look at www.biddingfortravel.com before you bid.

Hi,
I stayed at the Hotel Belvedere on 48th(or 49thSt?), about 5 mins from Times Square on a fairly quiet street. It cost $130 for a superior twin room. The room was great- large, two beds, good sound-proofing. It had recently been redecorated so everything was clean and in good order. There's also a fridge and a microwave in the room. The staff at the hotel were brilliant- very helpful. I have stayed in various moderate hotels in New York in the mid-town region, but this one was the only one I was happy with. I definitely will stay here again. Their website is

I sound as if I am their marketing manager but honestly, I am not! I was just very pleased with the hotel! Enjoy New York

Best Western President. Just off times square on 48 th. great deli nearby, close to resturant row, literally in the middle of theatre district, subway, we walked to Central park (a bit of a trek though),also close to shopping area on 34th street... Clean, safe, friendly staff. $109 per night. I would stay there again.

I second George's suggestion regarding biddingfortravel. I got a room through hotwire at the Hilton (on 6th, across from Radio City Music Hall) last September (prior to Sept. 11) for about $140. With biddingfortravel, you'll be able to make an even more intelligent bid on Priceline. I think you'd want to use midtown west as your zone.

Yep, biddingfortravel is where you want to go. Priceline is great if you aren't focused on one hotel property and have 2 or less occupants. On my trip to NYC last month, I was able to get the Grand Hyatt for $85 a night. I was very pleased with what I paid.

I too lucked into a room at the Belvedere through hotwire.com (it's no guarantee with hotwire.com but it appears that several of us have received this hotel when purchasing on hotwire.com) I was there last week. I think this is a good bet and there is no bidding required! Anna

My cousin just stayed at the Carlton Arms in Murray Hill and had an enjoyable stay. I believe the rates are in your price range.

A second for The Belvedere. Try www.quickbook.com. That's how I booked.
It's nice, clean and in a great location.
