I want my expired Passport back!

I sent in my United States Passport for renewal and today received my new one.
My old Passport number is now a new number, which now I will need to memorize and also missing is my old Passport with all my dates and stamps of where I have traveled to.
I really want my old Passport back...where is it??

FAQ on the fed site:

Q:I'm renewing my passport. Do I get the old one back?
a:Yes, we return the old, cancelled passport to you although it may be sent separately from your new passport.

Relax. It is coming. They always have a new number. And they always come in a separate envelope.

My next question...
Why did I have to get a new Passport #?
Why couldn't my old one be assigned to me?
I've had the same number since 1986, kinda like my Social Security number, I've had it memorized.

Yes, I have my old number memorized, I travel frequently and plus I'm good with numbers.

Close my eye's, tap my heels and soon my Passport will be here from Kansas!
