BTW, things seem to be working fine again today but I'm curious about the cookie issue.

I had the same problem but don't have AOL. When that message seems to "disappear" I hit the refresh button and the message finally posted.

Another thing I found is that I had to double click the "post my reply" button in order for it to work.

I also use IE.

I've never used AOL. I occasionally have this problem with IE. Then I either switch to Netscape or use a proxy and the problem is solved.

To clean your cookies, click on "start" then click on "run" then type in"cookies" then highlight all except "index" (move it out of your way) after highlighting the others hit "delete". Turn your computer off and reboot. Worked for me.

The saga continues. After less than 24 hrs of OK posting, my problems started again. By the way, I figured out the disappearing posts happen because when I click my screen name to see posts I've participated in, the URL automatically changes to www, even though my bookmark is without www-

cd I tried following your instructions for deleting cookies. After typing cookies & clicking ok, I get a window that's filled to overflowing with lists of, I guess every website I've ever visited . There's nothing that says "index" to move. I tried highlighting it all & then clicked on edit & then "select all". I have no option for "delete"-just cut, copy or paste. I clicked cut but that didn't work. Sorry if I'm being dense. Can anyone help? I have a feeling this could really solve my problems as I think it's taking up most of the memory in my computer!

If you running IE you can Delete cookies by hitting "Tools" at the top of your browser.
Then hit"Internet Options" and there is a button that says "delete cookies"

I would also suggest dumping AOL.
I had problems with them for a while and they kept blaming my computer. I left them and went to a local Dial-up and waddayaknow....problem solved.
You might also check out a freeware program called Lavasoft Adaware 6 it is a small file to download but it scans your files and finds unwanted programs on your computer. It might just be a hidden file you picked up somewhere.
BTW you would most likely save money by switching ISP's.

Yes I'm anxious to find an alternate IS but which one??

Panhandle, I don't normally run IE, I use AOL but I closed AOL, went to IE, clicked tools then internet options & I get a box that has no delete cookies option. Am I crazy? It has history information & I keep clicking delete history but it's not removing these cookies. Any other thoughts anyone?

mclaurie, you may have to delete the files one at a time.

When you highlite the file, use the delete button on your keyboard.

Did you go the The Church Mouse in Palm Beach? I'm thinking about going to South Florida this weekend.

After highlighting your cookies, just hit delete on your keyboard. Then remember to reboot.

No one is listening to me but I have not had even one delay since I took the www out of the url. I have no clue why it works but it totally fixed it for me.

mclaurie is not exaggerating. I rarely post here because of that. I'm about to switch.

Mclaurie try to avoid larger ISP's
like earthlink...I had the same problem with them. I would either use cable or Dsl if available. If not look up internet in your phonebook and go with a local company. My service was much faster locally. I have now since switched to cable and LOVE it.
BTW my computer that I use for surfing is likely as old as yours is. Your computer should be more than capable of net use.
Try this for your cookies...Click start" then "programs" then find the program "windows explorer" then scroll down to where it says "windows" click on it and you will find a cookies folder. Click it and you will find all the little cookies on your computer...
after you find the folder (which you can also use find files or folders like and earlier post said) click "edit" on the top of your screen. Then.."select all" they will all be highlighted. After your highlight them click "file" then "delete"
Good luck!

My message always disappears... but just hit the refresh button and it will post. Well, that's what works for me anyway.

OK so things are working again. I won't bore you with all this. Just wanted to thank cd & others for help on deleting cookies (press delete, duh). I clearly have some computer problems in addition to internet problems. I panicked that I had in fact deleted a cookie I needed when things weren't working at all. Thank goodness the cookie deletion stopped before removing that "index" file cd mentioned.

TxTravelPro (and Howard) I'm not ignoring your www point. The problem is when I go to "mclaurie" posts, the computer automatically turns the URL into www.

GoTravel, we DID go to Church Mouse. I had written a mini report but it was one of the disappearing posts. I didn't find anything for myself (most of the good women's stuff was formal attire apart from a few great Bill Blass outfits that were size 4!) BUT DH who DETESTS shopping found a few things including a terrific navy double breasted blazer (which he doesn't need because he already has 2) which he couldn't resist. We didn't do the trail walk because it was too darn hot.
