Hurricane Bud headed for Hawaiian Islands!
For those of you going to the Hawaiian Islands, or in Hawaii next week (around 7/18), it is probably going to be quite windy and rainy thanks to Hurricane Bud. It's projected to be there around Tuesday. Even if it weakens, it will still be a tropical storm at minimum.

How sad for someone who has waited for years to finally get to Hawaii and then wham...a hurricane!!!! Hopefully it will have lost it's "punch", for everyones sake, if it does hit. Hmm..this post made me think of Kal for some reason. Haven't "seen" him lately? Anyone hear from him?

TROPICAL STORM Bud (it was a hurricane only briefly if ever) may bring some rains into Hawaii next week, but there is no need for serious concern. This isn't Florida - serious hurricanes are a once a decade event in Hawaii, and chances are the rains won't last more than a day. I think that the silver lining far outweighs the clouds in this case - expect to enjoy some great surf-watching opportunities over the weekend as storm-driven swells start hitting the south-eastern coasts.

Today's bulletin from the Nat'l Weather Service:
Tropical Storm Bud
Statement as of 8:00 am PDT on July 14, 2006
Bud is quickly weakening under the influence of cold SSTs and a stable airmass...Bud will likely become a remnant low in about a day and a
half and may not exist at days four and five.
We get these storms passing by the islands every year during hurricane season. So far -- as bobludlow has stated -- actual hurricanes are rare, and are deflected by the colder waters between Hawai`i and Mexico. Whew! 8-)

The name "Bud" seems a little too friendly for a hurricane. It s/b something like Bruno.
I'm sorry for anyone whose vacation is affected. I'll hope and pray there won't be a hurricane in late Sept/early Oct when I'm there.
BTW, aren't hurricanes pretty rare in HI, or do they get overshadowed by the monsters that hit the Atlantic?
Seriously, to all in Bud's path, I wish you well.
