Hurricane Bud headed for Hawaiian Islands!

For those of you going to the Hawaiian Islands, or in Hawaii next week (around 7/18), it is probably going to be quite windy and rainy thanks to Hurricane Bud. It's projected to be there around Tuesday. Even if it weakens, it will still be a tropical storm at minimum.

Hmmm:? I recall Bud((B)) hitting the islands about a year ago :o)

\:D/ ((y)) Yup, that would have been me, May of last year, and the place hasn't been the same since. ~:> ((b))

How sad for someone who has waited for years to finally get to Hawaii and then wham...a hurricane!!!! Hopefully it will have lost it's "punch", for everyones sake, if it does hit. Hmm..this post made me think of Kal for some reason. Haven't "seen" him lately? Anyone hear from him?

Last heard he was planning a Europe trip ...

TROPICAL STORM Bud (it was a hurricane only briefly if ever) may bring some rains into Hawaii next week, but there is no need for serious concern. This isn't Florida - serious hurricanes are a once a decade event in Hawaii, and chances are the rains won't last more than a day. I think that the silver lining far outweighs the clouds in this case - expect to enjoy some great surf-watching opportunities over the weekend as storm-driven swells start hitting the south-eastern coasts.

Kali is around. Just posted last night and told someone that Maui is mo bettah than Kauai.

Today's bulletin from the Nat'l Weather Service:

Tropical Storm Bud
Statement as of 8:00 am PDT on July 14, 2006
Bud is quickly weakening under the influence of cold SSTs and a stable airmass...Bud will likely become a remnant low in about a day and a
half and may not exist at days four and five.

We get these storms passing by the islands every year during hurricane season. So far -- as bobludlow has stated -- actual hurricanes are rare, and are deflected by the colder waters between Hawai`i and Mexico. Whew! 8-)

Weather.com has the Big Island having rain for the next 9 days, the 10th being mostly cloudy. I'm headed there on the 11th day...hopefully Bud, Carlotta and tropical depression 5 will be far away.

The name "Bud" seems a little too friendly for a hurricane. It s/b something like Bruno. :-o I'm sorry for anyone whose vacation is affected. I'll hope and pray there won't be a hurricane in late Sept/early Oct when I'm there.

BTW, aren't hurricanes pretty rare in HI, or do they get overshadowed by the monsters that hit the Atlantic?

Seriously, to all in Bud's path, I wish you well.

Sorry guys, I was skimming the earlier posts as I'm posting on the sly from work. Thanks for answering my question about the rarity of hurricanes in advance. :-)

Dukey Jul 17th, 2006 05:42 AM

They are rare but when they hit they seem unforgettable...such as Iniki

Fortunately, both Bud and Carlotta have seen their better days, and all you poor souls remain stuck in paradise.

Goodbye to Bud, guess the Islands are now left over to Coors.
