We visted the Hukilau in March. I had the cheddar jalapeno soup for an appetizer-awesome! My husband had a shrimp appetizer of some sort that he thought was great. We each had an oriental chicken salad which was very good-a little heavy on the green pepper-but still very crisp and fresh. The bread they serve is scrumptious!

Aloha LVAMY,

A Pacific Cafe closed a couple of years ago.

We had a good meal at Hukilau. It is a very casual and comfortable place to a have a nice meal. Try top get a table on the open-air side of the room. Believe it or not they serve a very tasty meatloaf! Not my favorite spot, but good.

When you make your reservation, ask to sit "downstairs". That's the area the most "outside".

LVAMY, Kapaa has lots of good restaurants and we liked HukiLau Lanai a lot, but that was a year ago. We went early and had the 6 course Food & Wine Tasting Menu.

Alohaaa,
Just ate there again in Jan '06.
Another good meal.

The Kauai Kunana Dairy Chevre Salad is onoliscious.
We also ordered the "artisan" cheese plate for an appie and wasn't disappointed.
Excellent local beef, fresh fish, good portions, too.

The shitake meatloaf is my personal favorite.
Good wine list. Good price ranges.

We stay "next door" at The Islander and would sometimes walk over and just have a glass of wine and listen to the music in the lobby.

I'2,
Six courses!?! You're my kind of woman!

I like Coconuts a lot too. I read a bad review of it here recently. We'll have to make sure grumpylou stops by there in June and sample the goods.

We weren't too thrilled with Coconuts last time out. Food was fine, but service was just not of the Aloha spirit normally exhibited on Kauai.

Neither are fancy, but we love love love Olympic Cafe and Kauai Pasta.

bbq, 6 small courses!!! And tiny whines!

I'2,
We ate at Coconuts I think 3x last trip and each one was pretty good, even the service. Lobsterrrrrrr ravvvvvvsssss.

We sat outside one night and my only complaint was "food starers"...people who walk slowly by your table STARING at your food!

I quit lifting my plate up so "The Starers" could get a better look years ago and after having Mrs Kal's elbow surgically removed from my ribs.

Totally agree with you on Oly Cafe! Especially in their new location.
Pizzetta's took over their old location and somehow not as many flies now!?!?!
Good grub there too.

But ex-nay on Pasta-nay Kauai-scray...hard to get a seat already!

I guess you lost your fire for our fave little Mexican hole in the wall? :-?

I can't remember the name, maybe the smarties of the last 2 posts can help, but the place is across the street from Coconut Marketplace...where all the goats used to be.

Kal, did y'all eat at LaPlayita Azul the last time out? I got my knickers in a twist when I saw "cash only". That's just one of my things. Like to keep the cash for important things like "tiny whines"!!

I'2,

Isn't it Wahoo or Wahoo's or something like that? I'm glad you think I'm smart.

Wahoooooooooos...used to be Margarita's then maybe one or two more before this one....and the mules were "Chips, Salsa and Guacamole".

I'2, I'll have to check...the last few trips have blended together!
The only way I can remember now is to look at my pix!
Loved their green spicy sauce.

I DREAM about carnitas and eggs at the Oly.

i'2,
Took a look at my pics on worldisround.
Nope...looks like "e.b.'s eats" and "The El" replaced La Playita.

Looks like last trip was an eating tour!
