DH and I are going to Atlanta for a family wedding in October. The rehearsal dinner is going to be at the New Century China Buffet in Decatur. DH and I aren't big fans of Chinese buffets and we want to eat our own dinner elsewhere afterwards. We are staying at the Gaslight Inn near Virginia Highland. Will we have any luck finding an open restaurant after 9pm on a Friday, or are just the bars open at that time? Thanks in advance for any advice!

You'll find restaurants open. Two options if you run later than you expect are Atkins Park and the Majestic Diner.

Consider Vine at Highland and Amsterdam as a nice restaurant option and Surin for Thai.

The Gaslight isn't "near" Virginia Highland, it's actually IN Virginia-Highland. You can walk one block down St. Charles to N. Highland where there are many restaurants that will be open after 9 on Friday, including Surin, Atkins Park and Dish.

The Majestic, on Ponce de Leon, is a local institution, but not a destination restaurant for many. It's a diner in an interesting area with interesting characters orbiting the diner. You might enjoy Highland Tap, in V-H proper, if you like steak and chops (sans sticks).
