Hello. Could anyone provide a appreciate a recommendation on a driver service to and from airport. Have not had good luck with the regular taxis there. Thank you!

What is your destination? Are you arriving at IAH or Hobby?

If going to a hotel, perhaps they have a shuttle service or could recommend one for you.

One Houston taxi experience - driver added an extra charge to the rate because I used a credit card even though I had asked if he took credit cards before the trip. I knew I was being ripped off, but given his demeanor it was easier to pay. Have found some taxis do not take credit cards at all which might be common for the area.

Travelling to the Galleria area from IAH.

Taxis in many parts of the country don't take credit cards - and even if some do - many don't. In NYC they don't.

Why not just carry a little cash - doesn't seem so complicaed?

Thanks for the expert replies. It was not one episode; $150 US round trip is not a "little cash" nor as easy for the expense reports.

Have been doing MANY busines trips for years. And have always assumed cabs required cash. And, yes - for a busines trip $150 IS a little cash - if I know I'm using cabs - vs renting a car I always make sure to have at least $300 cash to start with - and you can easily get more at the ATM in any hotel lobby.

And - if I was staying so far from the airport - probably would do car rental vs cab anyway.

It seems you're angsting over nothing.

Wait until you're stuck in O'Hare overnight due to a blizzard and have to beg a stranger to give you a ride to a hotel - any hotel - instead of sleeping on the floor. Or land in Indiannapolis instead of Cincy due to tornados- and have to complete the trip by bus at 2 in the am for a 7:30am meeting.

You really need to learn to go with the flow.

Sure I understand go with the flow. I'm not sure why making an inquiry into an airport service is considered otherwise?

For several years travelling to Houston I had a terrific driver who had to retire last year for health reasons. It was quite a rude surprise with the particular intimidating episode referenced. Meanwhile, I have found a service through Google - not the first-hand referral I was hoping for from this site, but travel being tedious enough, I look forward to establishing another relationship to make travel time a little smoother and my feeling a little safer.

Bev - have you thought of asking the hotel where you stay if they have a suggestion. Its been years but I seem to recall a shuttle service to the airport from SW Houston. Surely there is such from the Galleria! You may have to go with their schedule but you should look into this.
