Hotels in South Beach Florida

Has anyone ever stayed at the Holiday Inn South Beach or the South Beach Plaza Hotel in Miami? They are on Collins Avenue. How safe is that area at night? I appreciate any input.

Stayed at the Holiday Inn, very safe, has an Outback Steakhouse attached. Very close to Lincoln Road Mall.

Oceanfront, free parking and beach chairs.

What else would you like to know?

I would not recommend walking on the beach by yourself at night.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn in June. I felt very safe. My husband and I went for a walk along the boardwalk at night and there was security patroling the boardwalk.

Have I missed something? Since when did it become dangerous to walk on South Beach at night? What's happening down there -- other than the usual mayhem?

When are you planning to go? I'm going to stay in the South Beach Plaza Hotel in October and can do a little report.

cbr, that property's name is indeed the Beach Plaza Hotel (no "South"). I haven't stayed there, but I've walked by countless times and the public areas are quite pretty. The area is quite heavily-traveled and not at all dodgy.
