hotels in baltimore?
My partner and I will be going to Baltimore to catch an Orioles game for our anniversary in 2 weeks. I need to book us a hotel room and I would like to be close to Camden Yards but I would also like to avoid being in a hotel that is too rowdy with post game, drinking crowds. (I don't mind such crowds generally, but since it is our anniversary ....). Any suggestions for something close but quieter?
Thanks. Shelley

We stayed at Wyndham Inner Harbor - very quiet, business oriented hotel. Not exactly on Inner Harbor, but closer to Camden Yards than other Inner Harbor hotels.
While I am not always a Priceline fan, Inner Harbor works well since it is a distinct area and there are only a handful of hotels. That is how we ended up at Wyndham, which would bother some people who felt 2 blocks to Inner Harbor was too far - but we got 2 really nice rooms for some ridiculously low price.

The light rail runs right past Camden Yards. If you want to be away from post-game crowds, maybe a hotel near the airport (served by the light-rail as well) would serve your needs?
As a part-time desk clerk and someone who travels a bit, I've got to say that what groups you get in a hotel are kind of hit & miss - even the hotel often doesn't know what to expect - but often its the more moderate-priced places with an on-premises bar that get the worse noise problems - especially once the bar closes.

I would strongly advise against the light rail option -- there's not any difference between the BWI area and any airport strip anywhere in the U.S. It is among the least charming areas in the vicintiy of Charm City.
Rarely are the hotels rowdy after the games because the Inner Harbor is so close to Camden, most folks head there.
Another options would be to use the water taxis to Fells Point such as the Inn at Henderson Wharf.
Plus, despite their nice start, the Orioles aren't drawing that well this season.

I agree that an airport hotel would be far from charming -- just a chrome & plastic "cookie cutter" property.
I looked at a Clarion in Balt that looked nice ... missed my chance at a great price on it. I like the Fells Point area. When booking hotels, be careful about what they call themselves. A number of the Bahwmarh hotels give a name like "Bigname Inn - Inner Harbor" and are not near the harbor at all -- including one one the Marriotts. Do a map on the street address and find the true location, and DON'T get too near the stadium.

rbs travelerx's point is very well taken, and was just recently the subject of a thread here, if I'm not mistaken. In fact, I used to think the title Marriott Inner Harbor was misleading because it's not really right where people think of when they think "inner harbor." It's actually on the edge of the harbor closer to Camden Yards. But that's what makes it so perfect for the original poster. And it seems they must have received numerous complaints because they've now added "at Camden Yards" to their internet listing. If you wanted a Marriott that was more centally located in the harbor, you'd be better off at the Marriott Waterfront, which is usually also more expensive.
