Hotel on Rivington

We're invited to a wedding at an arts center on the Lower East Side. We're sixty, somewhat conservative , but enjoyed a stay at The James Hotel in Scottsdale. Do you think we would like The Hotel on Rivington? Is it easy to get to the theater district and midtown shopping by public transportation from the hotel?

Any other thoughts as to where we could stay? Thanks for your help.

Is your wedding at the Angel Orensanz foundation? There really isn't a need to stay in the LES. It's easy enough to get around the city, either by public transportation or cabs. If you want to be closer to the theater district, it is a very reasonable option to stay closer to midtown where most of the tourist hotels are located.

The Hotel on Rivington, or THOR, as it's known, is a very cool hotel. I've never stayed there, but have been to the lounge a few times. I think you will feel out of place, as most of the patrons you'll encounter will be cooler-than-thou 20-somethings. I love the LES (and live there), but it is a grittier neighborhood than many others.

I'm sure you'll get some good recommendations for alternative hotels from the other experts. Also, check out tripadvisor.com for reviews.

Hopstop.com is a website that helps you figure out how to get from point a to point b by various methods (subway, bus, walk, even taxi). The hotel is only a block and half from the nearest subway station. But I really think it depends on the length of your trip. If you're coming for 4+ days and will only be on the lower east side for that one night, seems as though you might want to pick something more central. If you like the idea of a trendy hotel, there are quite a few in midtown closer to the theaters. So if you tell us what kind of hotel you'd like, your budget and what other things you 'd like to do, we can make some suggestions.

Yes the wedding is at the Angel Orensanz Foundation. And since there will be other people attending the wedding and staying at the hotel, we probably wouldn't be the only older people our age at THOR that weekend. So if you all think it is a nice, comfortable place maybe we will try it. The showers sound somewhat unusual: any privacy?
