We will fly out from Phoenix early AM and need to stay the night nearby.I did the search here ,but most of threads were several years old.
We'll be driving in from Sedona,turn in the rental car night before,and catch the hotel shuttle to the hotel.

In 2003, when we needed to stay right near the airport, we stumbled upon the Best Western Airport Inn. Although far from luxurious, it was very comfortable, very clean and had a great restaurant (as well as a nice staff).
If you're looking for something very close to the airport, this might be a good spot.

Any other suggestions ? I read in some of the previous postings that the surrounding area nr. airport is rundown. We are looking for pleasant overnight lodgings,no luxury, but safe. Also shuttle service and possibly breakfast. Anyone stay nr. airport lately ???? Thanks.

I was there last year and the area around the airport is indeed rundown from what I saw.

Check hotels along 44th St. There is a Holiday Inn Select on 4300 E. Washington, a Marriott, Embassy Suites, Wellsley Inn, Doubletree Suites plus several others. The area is fine and safe.
