There are three hotels I can think of in the U.S. with this name--
Where is the one you are questioning???

Ok. If it helps, it is the Monteleone Hotel on Royal Street in N.O.

I stayed there about 15 mos ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. I arrived on a busy early afternoon and was welcomed with a glass of sparkling wine to ease my time waiting to check in. I didn't have meals in the hotel but room service coffee was hot, good and on time and I enjoyed the Carousel Bar off the lobby. My room was pretty, well maintained and clean. Not the epitome of luxury but I didn't pay for that either. A great small hotel in a good location. We enjoyed Mr. B's across the street and the wonderful antique shops down Royal. LMF

We stayed there a couple of years ago and while the location was fine the service and maintenance were abysmal. When we arrived (around 4pm) they first denied having our reservations, which took about 20 minutes to straighten out. We were then shown to rooms which had not been serviced since they were vacated by the previous guest - and when we protested we were told "then go wait in the lobby". We stored our luggage, went out to explore and when we returned about 6 were told our rooms were ready. One had still not been serviced and the other had been - but was still a mess (wet towels in the closet, dirty dishes, napkins under furniture etc.) We finally got a head of housekeeping to look at the rooms and have them serviced properly - but never an apology - the entire attitude was that we were causing trouble and were very picky. Granted this is a budget choice - but at least it should be clean.

On another note, I can't imagine what kind of pigs were staying in that hotel to leave sopping wet towels all over the bathroom, bedroom (soaking the carpet), closet etc and what looked like several days of food dishes on the floor.

Thanks. Like everything I have been reading, this hotel consistently gets mixed reviews. Heck, with their published prices, I thought it would be more upscale.

We(17 women) stayed there 3 weeks ago. Some of us were checked in right away, some not for hours. Several of us had 3 in a room and it is very small!! They brought a rollaway be and it would not fit. We then had to be moved to another room 1 hour later. This room was even smaller but by then we just stayed. The rooms were nicely decorated but very small. The location was great. We could walk to Bourbon Street after dinner and to Jackson Square. The elevators were awful. They had 2 closed and they wait some days was 15 minutes. It is a nice hotel though and we got the rooms for $99.00. The birthday girl after waiting 4 hours to check in, received a suite that was great!!! Good luck.
(We ate at Muriels and it was great)

I'm a little late catching this note. I stayed at the Monteleone last November and thought it was a wonderful hotel. It has a gorgeous lobby and all the rooms have been remodeled to include beautiful marble bathrooms, fast internet connections, etc.I'm sorry Ny traveler had a bad experience, but don't understand the comment about it being a "budget" hotel. Doesn't look like budget prices to me. Nor is it small--16 stories. The last high rise to be permitted in the French Quarter. Actually on the edge of the French Quarter. A hotel with history, the same family has run it for several generations and it is a Literary Landmark Hotel, since Tennessee Wiliams, Faulkner, Hemmingway and others liked to cavort in its Carousel Bar. The wonderful concierge Eva has been there about 25 years and can help you with EVERYTHING!

Just returned from our stay at the Hotel Monteleone. Everything Vera, above, said is true. I loved the hotel...very classy. The bed (king) was one of if not the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on. The staff was very warm and friendly. The room was on the small side, but perfectly suitable. Nothing seemed cheap or as an effort to cut costs. The houskeeping service was very accomadating and thorough. And talk about location? It has location, location, location.

My only complaint was the Carousel Bar closing at 1:30 each night when it's hours were posted as...."'til". They closed down a packed bar on several nights...

I very much recommend this hotel for a NOLA stay.

Perhaps it has been redone since our stay - but then it was distinctly a budget choice - I think the room was about $129. And it wasn't the decor (you obviously don;t expect much at that price) but the service and cleanliness we had problems with. Perhaps they have upgraded housekeeping - or banned groups of college students - since then.
