hotel-Loew's

I have been reading info on hotels and no one mentions Loew's. It is right next to the Smithsonian so I thought it would be the best choice. What wrong with it? We are going to DC in July and I'd like to stay in a good place.

I have stayed at Loews L'Enfant and it is a nice hotel. The pool is open year round and is quite nice. They evenput Hershey's kisses on your pillow in the evenings. What I didn't like about it is the location. It served our purpose for arrival(taking the Metro in from VA) but the area is desolate at night--no walking aroundenjoying the sights, smells etc. We ended up eating at the hotel which was overpriced hotel food-- decent but would rather spend the money at some of DC's better restaurants.

It's a business hotel away from most of the best tourist sites in DC. It has a metro stop downstairs, though, which is nice.
But especially on weekends you go outside and feel like you're in a deserted town sometimes.
The hotel itself is nice. Service good.

Noreen,
We stayed at Loews 2 1/2 years ago with our kids and loved it. The other posters are right about no restaurants close by the hotel but the Metro stops right at the hotel and it's easy to get anywhere in DC. We found it very 'walkable,' however, to get to the Capitol, the Air and Space Museum, etc. and that was with a then-7 year old. The rooms are huge and that's a plus if you're traveling with kids. Also, either Frommers or Fodors (can't remember which) has ranked Loew's pool as the best in DC--it was wonderful for the hot July afternoons when we were there. I would stay there again with no qualms--email me if you have questions.

The hotel is nice but i woulndt go there again considering the options in the area. I had read negative reviews about the place and some where true. The lady who checked us in was rude and accomodating for no reason. The room was okay until the second nite we switched from 2 full beds to a king (for 30 dollars more-which came to 175 per nite) the bathrooms were a bit dated. The room was clean and the pool was nice. The rooms facing the pool were bright and nice. The lobby is nice as well.

I simply can't believe that the desk clerk was accommodating for no apparent reason! The gall!

Hi noreen,
I agree that it sounds like a fabulous hotel!

We'll be staying here for a week this June so I will be sure to post a review when I return.
