Is this an Elvis trip Welshgirl? There have been some posts here about Memphis & Nashville & certainly Atlanta. You might try doing a text search by typing Memphis hotel in the search box above. It would help to know what you consider inexpensive & also what your plans are or where you want to be located. For example, Memphis which I do know a bit, is somewhat spread out as is Atlanta.

Priceline would be your best bet. Because you will be here around Easter, the tourist destination Pigeon Forge may give you some trouble with accommodation availability.
Out of curiosity, is there a reason you've picked these cities? There are places in the vicinity that are much nicer than some you've picked.

In Chattanooga, I would suggest staying at one of the hotels downtown near the aquarium. It may cost a little more, but it is worth it to be in a better area. Some of those include a Courtyard by Marriott, Marriott Residence Inn, or Hilton Garden Inn. There is a Marriott several blocks further south, but you can catch the free shuttle to the other parts of downtown. You may be able to get a deal on the hotel websites.

Hi there!
Thanks for all the replies.
We're flying into Atlanta on 31 March & then flying out on 13 April.
We wanted to see Gracelands & Dollywood so looking at the map we thought we could do a round trip going to Tupelo to see Elvis' child hood home, Memphis for Gracelands, Nashville for music, Pigeon Forge for Dollywood and Chattannoga for the incline railway. However I'm just looking at a map so if anyone has any better thoughts or suggestions I'd welcome them!!!
I'll also have a look at the past posts for inspiration.
Thanks

Why not dump one of the TN cities (Memphis for example)and head to Charlestone, SC, Savannah, GA or Asheville, NC. I can not imagine visiting the southern part of the US and skipping out on one of those cities in favor of that many in TN. Where is Tupelo anyway?

My thoughts also. While the cities you have listed are charming, Savannah GA, Charleston SC, and Asheville NC are all head and shoulders above the ones you have listed.
Memphis and Nashville are both lovely but I would skip Dollywood and Chattanooga.
Just my opinion.

I would say Chattanooga is worth the visit. The Aquarium, Hunter Museum, Lookout Mountain, Incline Railway and Coolidge Park along the river make Chattanooga a nice place to visit. Sure it's a blue collar town, but they have done a lot to make the downtown area tourist friendly. Plus, if you end your trip up in Chattanooga, you're only two hours away from the Atlanta airport. I would also say if you want to see Dollywood, go for it. Yes, the Pigeon Forge area is pretty tacky, but it's all part of what makes travelling in America great. Whatever areas you decide to visit, I think you'll enjoy the southeast.

Hi
Thanks for all the comments - there's certainly lots to think about!
I've looked at Priceline but as I need 2 rooms - my mum is coming with us- I think I'll book a hotel that I know.
Is thre anyone chain of hotels you would recommend? We're looking to pay around $70 a night ( or less! ).
Thanks

Check on: http://druryinns.com/
To see if there are any in the areas you want. These are clean inns that serve a wonderful full breakfast for around $60.00

In Tupelo, I recommend the Courtyard by Marriott and the new Holiday Inn Express. Check out http://www.tupelo.net to find out about Elvis' birthplace and other Tupelo attractions.
In Memphis, I would try the La Quinta on Primacy Parkway or either Homewood Suites or Comfort Inn & Suites on Wolf River Parkway in Germantown (suburb east of Memphis). I also like the Embassy Suites. I don't recommend staying in the hotels by Graceland. That isn't the safest part of town.
By the way it is about a 5 hour drive to Tupelo from Atlanta and an easy 1 1/2 hour drive from Tupelo to Memphis.

Graceland is fine by day but don't stay near it or near the airport (not our safest area and FedEx flights all night). I would suggest that you find a hotel near Wolfchase Galleria in East Memphis. Lots of restaurants and shopping around there with easy interstate access to get you wherever you want to go in Memphis. Look for zip code 38133, attraction Wolfchase Galleria Mall, or Germantown Road. There are several hotels to choose from. Wellesley Memphis has a dbl suite for $67/night on Expedia.com Hope you enjoy your Memphis visit.
