We stayed at the Beverly Garland, Holiday Inn last year and enjoyed it. It is sorta "in the middle of things" and offers a shuttle to most sights, oitherwise we took a taxi rather than struggle with parking and traffic.
Nice restruant with an outdoor area that we ate 3 out of 5 nites. Nice pool, pleasant staff. We'd stay there again.

I too ask about the budget. The great hotels mentioned above are great. I usually stay at Summerfield Suites in West Hollywood, within a couple blocks of La Cienega, Sunset Blvd. (the active part), and Santa Monica Blvd. It is especially nice rooms (all mini suites) with a rooftop pool, nice buffet breakfast included, and self-parking in the under-building gated garage. It varies in price, but usually under $ 150 a night.

I stayed at the Wyndham Bel Age in West Hollywood for two nights and was very impressed. It also has a lovely pool on the roof.
The concierge was able to get us reservations for the Warner Brothers Studio tour even though the studio's web site stated reservations were no longer taken.

Hi Patrick... I just checked the Summerfield rates for my next trip to La and saw that it is 89.00 night. I usually stay in hotels that have a higher rating... is this in a safe part of WH? Any additional information would be appreciated.
