hotel in Chicago
Has anyone stayed at the Tremont Hotel? It was recommended to me, but after reading Trip Advisor, I am a little reluctant. It is very well-located and the price is fairly reasonable. Is there another reasonalby priced hotel in the area that someone could recommend?

If you want a reasonably priced hotel in any area in Chicago, go to Priceline.com and bid for it. We got the The Westin Michigan Avenue 4* for $99, which was half-price.
BUT DON'T USE PL UNLESS YOU KNOW HOW TO DO IT.
And there is already plenty of info on Fodors forums on how it works.

I stayed in the Tremont and the rooms are quite small. I'd describe it as sort of charming in comparison to a stale business hotel but if you're comparing it to the Westin or a mod boutique hotel, it could feel rundown since it's not modern. (or it wasn't 5 years ago)
The Allegro is not as well situated as the Tremont but I recall getting cheap rates for the suites there, you might give it a try.
I agree PL is a good idea but go to one of those helper sites like biding for travel or better bidding to walk you through the process.

What is "fairly reasonable"? The Tremont needs to be updated, but if the price is right it would be ok. Ditka's is adjacent to the hotel and the location is excellent. Knowing Chicago, if you could get the Tremont for $150/night or less, go for it.
If you want to upgrade, a block and a half away is the Talbott. Excellent hotel and a little pricey. We feel it's worth it and always stay there.
Another hotel to consider in the area is the Whitehurst. It's a block away from the Talbott on the same street.
I personally don't like Price Line since I want to know what I am getting. I don't like large "corporate" hotels, which is pretty much what you will get with Priceline.

A new Residence Inn and Spring Hill Suites just opened within the last week. They share a building on Dearborn & Hubbard near the south end of the Mag Mile but still within walking distance to everything. I'm sure they'll have some deals until more people are aware that they exist. They may be worth looking into.

Don't stay at the Tremont. I always stay at the Talbott and second that suggestion. The Whitehall is also a very nice hotel. I have gotten great rates at the Talbott when I book early. If you're okay with staying in the Gold Coast, the Hotel Indigo is interesting and affordable (by Chicago standards).
