I arrive quite late PM at Norfolk VA after flying all day so think it might be best to book a hotel that night and pick up rental car the next morning. Any recommendations for hotels near the airport with shuttle service? Don't need bargain basement rates but not looking for 5-star either.

I seem to recall a Hilton and an Econolodge close to the airport, the Hilton adjacent.

I can't think of any hotels next to or near the airport. You might try the airport website or calling them. Williamsburg is only an hour away. You don't want to drive into Norfolk itself for a hotel because its in the opposite direction. Halfway to Wmsbg there is an Omni right by the highway at the J. Clyde Morris exit in Newport News.

Thanks. I am not really worried about something being in the "wrong direction". My flight lands a little after 11 PM so I don't plan on driving to Willaimsburg that night. I was hoping there was something right at or near the airport (or even just something with a shuttle bus) where I could just spend the one night and sleep late - then pick up my rental car the next day when I'll have plenty of time to tour around on my way to Willaimsburg.

Thanks Chris. That is what I was looking for. I wasn't finding much for Norfolk airport - but the "hampton" link looks like the trick.

Now I see that the whole area markets itself as Hampton Roads - I wouldn't have known that. Now I have a lot to look at. Thanks.

Try gohamptonroads.com, any of the hotels in Norfolk would be fine. Downtown norfolk is a quick 20 minutes from the airport. Going to newport news at 11pm will feel like a much longer drive. You could get a rental car from Enterprise who will pick you up at the hotel in the morning. Williamsburg is an easy hour dry from Downtown norfolk.

Forgot to mention... try the Sheraton Waterside Hotel. Most of the flight crews stay there so I believe that hotel has a free airport shuttle.
