I personally do not like staying in the center of time square - I did like the location of the Hilton garden inn for staying with my daughter and seeing shows-not in the center of it but good walking distance

I am more interested in the quality of the hotel. I realize that it isn't the greatest of areas, but it is convenient to what we will be doing and to our megabus. I have looked at tripadvisor-mixed reviews-talks about the tiny rooms and lack of view, but Christmas week hotel rates are astronomical. I stayed at the Salisbury in times past. I know it is old, but I wonder if that is a better option. Opinions?

Look at photos here http://www.oyster.com/new-york-city/...-times-square/
I think HATS is in the same league as Radio City apts but you get breakfast instead of a kitchen. All 3 of these have tired furniture. Without knowing what other options you might have, the prices or how many you are. It's hard to say. I think the location of all 3 is convenient but I'd prefer the location of the Salisbury.

I have booked 2 rooms at the Hilton Garden Inn on 35th. What is your opinion of the hotel and location? the strange thing is that the rate for Thursday, Dec.27 is $319, but if I want to book for 2 nights (Friday is $364) the Thursday rate goes up to $359. I couldn't get any real explanation for this.

It sounds like ita IS looking at both nights separately -- Thursday alone is $319, Friday alone is $364. But if they book Thursday and Friday, it is $359 and $364. Or am I not reading it correctly?

"Look at the price of each night separately. You might find that the price increase of the one night is due to them averaging the cost of both nights."
That's what I often see, that the rate for 2 nights is really listed as twice the average of 2 different prices. Occasionally the issue is that only certain categories of rooms are available for certain nights. So if the first night they have a room with one queen bed at a lower price, but for a 2 night stay only a king bed room is available, that's why the first night's price would be higher too.
If you can see each night separately for the same category of room (it won't do that if there's a 2 night minimum for example) and it comes out to less, just book them separately. The hotel will be able to combine then into one reservation when you get there so you don't have to move rooms (though they might possibly do it as 2 separate bills for their bookkeeping)

The closer you get to New Year's Eve, the higher the price. The Hilton Garden Inn chain in NYC is good but I would not choose the 35 st location if there wre other options. Here's a discount that might help your price. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev..._New_York.html

Hi, have you considered Room Mate Grace hotel? Its ideal location will put you within walking distance to some of the best nightlife spots and as well as several sightseeing during the day. You might also wanna enjoy a cocktail and refreshing drink by their awesome pool with a swim-up bar.
