Horseback Riding Near Santa Fe
My wife and I will be visiting Santa Fe for 3 days next February for a little skiing and site seeing in general. We passed through Santa Fe about 10 years ago on our honeymoon for only 1 day and vowed we return. My wife has never riden horses but would like to, so I thought this might be a good time to saddle up for 2 or 3 hours if its not too cold. Does anyone have any experiences or suggestions on riding within about an hour or less of Santa Fe?

I've ridden at the Bishop's Lodge. They have good horses and good trails, though it's still a "nose-to-tail" ride.
If there's snow on the ground, they probably won't take out the horses. In fact, they may close then.
Call first.

Sorry I couldn't respond earlier.
The Bishop's Lodge is a great place to stay. It's out of town and in the foothills, so it feels secluded.
the only drawback would be if it snowed. It sometimes takes awhile to get the little road the Bishop's Lodge is on plowed.
I've stayed in town, and I prefer that. It's just easier and saves a lot of driving.

We've ridden many times at Bishop's Lodge. They have horses for all levels and the trails are nice. Yes, nose-to-tail, unless you get a private ride. In the winter time, they reduce the rides due to weather since the trails are steep and muddy in places. Their rides are up to 2 hours. On a cold day that is long enough!
Staying at Bishop's isn't as nice as it has been in the past. They cater to large groups and retreats. Our last visit in October was a disaster due to the large, loud group. I DO NOT recommend staying there any more. However, you can ride there even if you are not a guest.
Have a great trip. Its our home away from home!
