In this month's Travel & Leisure, they list 65 affordable hotels. For Honolulu, they list the Aqua Bamboo and the Park Shore Waikiki (both have websites... just type in their name). For May, I've seen rates at the Aqua starting around $90. The location is dead-center Waikiki, two blocks from Kuhio Beach.

The Park Shore has rates as low as $100 per night. Hope this helps.

Just came back and enjoyed the Aston Waikiki Sunset. 1 block off the beach. We had a 1BR condo with a full kitchen for $139 per night with a mountain view.

You can occasionally find a deal at the Radisson Waikiki Prince Kuhio (very good location in Waikiki) one big block off the beach.

Have stayed there a few times and the service was very good plus the rooms were well appointed with nice views from the top floors.

I've seen their rates just under $100 at times.

I just got a room thru priceline.com at the Renassaince Ilikai for $60. I'm sure it will not be the best of rooms, but it is in a great location. Check out betterbidding.com and you can see how to bid on priceline and what others have gotten rooms for thru them and also hotwire...By the way, I found a room on hotwire that looked great for $115, but have no idea which hotel it is.

Stayed at Aqua Bamboo and moved out after 2 nights as we found the room too noisy - even though at the back of the hotel, noise from the street funnelled down an access alleyway and combined with old crappy a/c meant sleep was not so good. Rooms look OK on internet but finish is just so, so. Ceiling height is very low -feeling of claustrophobia , but then we found that to be common in better hotels as well. Service was friendly, so if it is total budget price, maybe consider it, otherwise I would not recommend it. we moved to Marc Diamond Head, cost a bit more but much nicer location and better rooms. But only go for 7th floor and above, lower floors there have awful viwes of next door buildings, upper floors have fantatic views.

We found the best rate from AAA Discount Hotel Hawaii (808-394-2112), website (www.discounthotelshawaii.com), the best rate the hotel gave us was $169 whereas their rate was $139.

There are so many hotels for under $125. If I were you, I would browse through several travel guides for some hotels that are less expensive, sound good. A lot of the hotels offer 50% discount with the Entertainment card. I believe all the Outriggers, and Astons do, as well as some others, but you have to check. I have been to Oahu several times, and the last two times, our hotels were $59-79 bucks a night, in Waikiki, close to beach, restaurants and bus. Have fun searching!
