Honeymooning in August, where to stay?

Where should we stay in Maui and Kaui, last 2 weeks of August for honeymoon? A place where you can relax or play. Thanks!!!!!!!!

What do you like? Nice resort or a place to yourselves? What is your budget? Do you have plenty of $$$$ to spend on a place?

Start with buying 2 books: Maui Revealed and The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook.

There are lots of people here who can give yougreat ideas but we need a bit more info.

Here's more of what I think we are looking for... more of a place to ourselves on Kaui and and resort type place in Maui. Probably not a condo, but no good reason for that. We want to stay in nice places that mid to up-scale (at a good deal of course - ha ha!). Thanks for the input!!!

We went to Kauai in September. We were looking for a place that was quiet, romantic and had no kids. We found exactly what we wanted at Whalers Cove near Poipu. It is a small condo complex right on the ocean. You can check out the web site to see what it looks like http://www.whalers-cove.com/Oceansid.../Whalers_Cove/.
We booked through Suite Paradise and felt we got a good rate until I saw this web site http://www.mauikauai.com/WhalersCove.htmThey list here for $195 per night.

We stayed in Building 1 on the second floor. There was nothing between us and the ocean. The lanai was huge and had great furniture. Very Private. The pool is virtually next to the ocean. You can snorkle right in front. There is no sandy beach here though.

Been to Maui 3 times. Stayed at the Hyatt 2 times and a condo I wouldn't recommend to honeymooners. I liked the Hyatt but we went in the off season so there was hardly anyone there. Thought it was very nice and romantic. I know other poster prefer Wailea. So maybe they can post with other recommendations.

We are honeymooning in August as well...the last week and we are spending a week in Kauai at the Hyatt and a week in Maui at the four seasons...from what I am told, we cannot go wrong with either!

Article today in the Honolulu Star Bulletin that says El Nino should be providing a dry winter November to Feb but there is an increased chance of tropical storms and Hurricanes for other months of 2002! Heard someone else in Hawaii chatroom talking about unseasonable rain in areas that are normally dry. Article pointed to this as beginning of el Nino pattern, apparently water temperatures have risen recently. Don't know at all what this means for Hawaii but it has me nervous about my August vacation already booked.

We honeymooned at the Kea Lani resort in Maui in '98. It's a very nice, upscale resort. The service is amazing and the food's good too (albeit expensive). I would definitely recommend brunch or dinner at the main Kea Lani restaurant - awesome! The beach is a little small, but there's a path that goes along the coast (you walk by the other resorts beaches & pooles on the way) that's very romantic in the moonlight.

We wanted to see a different island, so we're going to Kauai next week. We're staying at the Princeville, but if we were going back to Maui, we'd stay at the Kea Lani again.

I re read your second post and I think I misunderstood. I thought you meant no condo on Maui but you may have meant no condo at all.

I thought the Marriott on Kauai was very nice. The Hyatt is really beautiful but it's pretty pricey. In August you might want to stay on the north shore in Kauai.

lisa the character of El Nino is that it produces unusual weather pattersn. "Fail Safe" is when you know the pattern, El Nino is not frequent and not predictable. Remember any El Nino seasons?
