Hollywood, CA Melrose, Sunset or Rodeo?
Which area is safest and has best nightclubs?Does anyone know about the Hyatt W. Hollywood or hotels that either have dancing on-site or within walking distance to hotel? What is there to do during the day at these locations, other than shopping? i.e. local attractions

I second the vote for Sunset. The Mondrian and the Standard are both very trendy hotels with cool bars/clubs attached. Sunset has a lot of cool places. For daytime, you probably would want to drive to some of the LA attractions (all pretty close by) like the beach, etc...

Definitely Sunset--it's safe and has a nightlife. Note that the hotel bars don't have dancing---unless, of course, you want to be the only one dancing to the music. If you want to dance, you can go to The Keyclub (maybe 10 blocks from Hyatt), or to Miyagi's and Dublin's (a few blocks east).
For other things to do nearby, you can go to the Hollywood area and check out the footprints at the Chinese Theatre. Or, grab a cab to a museum--Getty is not too far, nor is Museum Row which has the Petersen's Automative Museum and the LA County Museum of Art.

Last summer we watched the most incredible parade of very beautiful young women parading around in size 0 black spandex type outfits trying to get into various places along Sunset. At one convenvience store a group of young women from Wisconsin asked the cashier how they could get into some of the clubs because they had just been turned away from the one that's across the street from the Comedy Club. It's a bar and I can't remember the name. They were dressed conservatively in comparison to the groups I had seen earlier. The cashier didn't have an answer for them. I also noticed that the doors of these clubs are staffed with well dressed young men holding clipboards (Thee List)?! and wearing earphones. I'm in my late 20's and although I don't look like Pamela Anderson, I'm not hideous either. I just felt it was such a pathetic site to witness and it goes on all night. We ate an Italian restaurant just a door or 2 off Sunset where a group of 3 30ish women shared 1 bowl of minnestrone soup! I was merely a visitor from another place so I don't know if that's what it's always like everywhere, but I thought I'd pass it along. You have to get on that silly list.

True about silly lists at some swanky clubs. I wouldn't come blind and start walking looking for a good time. And do dress up. What about tickets to House of Blues on Sunset? I'm not so hip about a lot of dance clubs with lists. Other ideas - Hollywood Bowl might have a great outdoor concert. How about the Greek theatre? Great outdoor theatres. Do you salsa? Salsa is big out here - lots of non-list dance clubs for that.
Can anyone weigh-in on good dance clubs in LA?
