April in San Diego
Just read about "June Gloom". What can we expect weather-wise in April in San Diego? While not looking for a beach vacation, we would certainly like some sun and pool- (and quick) ocean- dipping. Also, what about Baja California (within a two-hour drive from SD)? Or are we better off going to the desert, should we decide on a SD trip? Need to make up our minds soon. Kids will be 10 and 12 by then. Thanks!

I live here in San Diego and weather in April can be beautiful or it could be cool and rainy. It is certainly not our hottest month of the year. I would be prepared for weather from about 60-75 it will just depend....no one knows. As for Baja, I frequently go to Cabo San Lucas during this time and it's usually quite warm and nice....mid 70's to mid 80's...again, it just depends.It will be what it will be! Carol

Most kids would love San Diego because there are lots of varied activities for kids...the zoo, wilderness park, sea world, legoland....April weather is variable everywhere in the USA so you never know. Personally, I love San Diego and all of So. California. Nancy

June gloom is a possibility. Baja would be great but I have never been one to drive into Mexico. I would consider flying to a resort in Baja. Cabo?
But, I agree. Despite iffy weather, plenty to do in San Diego with the kids. And, the sun is usually out in the afternoon.

I also live in San Diego. This past April, our weather was not very warm - by our standards. You don't say where you are coming from; it could be very warm by your standards. The ocean water is cold, in the 50s. This is too cold for swimming and splashing around, but OK for snorkelling, scuba diving or surfing - all with a wet suit.
The Zoo, Wild Animal Park (wilderness park??) and Sea World are always fun. When the weather's cooler, you might want to keep your kids dry at Sea World, though! Your kids might be too old to find Legoland much fun. The general consensus seems to be that it's better for kids under 10.
I don't think there would be a great variation in temperature in Baja within two hours of San Diego. Cabo is at the southern tip of Baja, a very long drive and so most people fly.
Depending on how long you are going to be in S. California, I suggest spending a few (3) days in San Diego, then going to the Palm Springs area for sun, heat, and pool time. There are a lot of fun activities both you and your kids would enjoy there also.
Whatever you end up doing, have a great time!

I am a former S.D. resident.April can be "ify". If you want a dip in the ocean I don't think that will be possible. If your main thoughts are activities, S.D. has much to offer for kids and families. Much to keep you and your family busy, versus the desert.Perhaps a quick dip in the a pool might be o.k. sitting in the sun for a sunbath. 60-70 is usually the temp. Ocean temp is probably only in the 50's.
