doc, it is a bunch of small motels and a Howard Johnsons motel surrounded by 35 or so Tiki Bars. If you just want someplace to pass out, this is your deal. If you want peace, quiet, and relaxation, look elsewhere.

If you are looking at info on the marina, bunch of nice sportfishers (Bertram, Hatteras)and an overall okay Marina. Upper Matacombe is much nicer and probably less expensive. I'm sure they are pretty deep water (being on the bayside) because I've seen big sailboats in there.

I remember staying there in 1989 and the only thing that stuck out in my mind is that when I took the bathmat (thick towel style) off of the side of the tub, to take a shower, and a big cockroach was released and ran across the floor. Subsequently, I had the heebie-jeebies and we only stayed the one night. That was it for me, sorry for the negative comment. Maybe it's not common at that particular hotel and I was the only one that's ever happened to. It's also very possible that it could be a very common occurance at hotels in that region. Best of luck whatever you decide!
