Holiday Inn Civic Center /San Francisco

Hi,
Looking into staying at the Holiday Inn on 2130 Fulton St in August. Close to Univ. of
San Francisco and I can get a deal there. On map quest looks like it is near the Tenderloin area which I have heard is a bit dicey. Is that true, is the area generally safe?

Don't imagine we will be spending much time at the hotel, a lot to do while I am out there moving my daughter in to college., but want to make sure my husb. can't come with us, so just two gals alone.

Thanks for any input,
rbhm

I wouldn't stay there. Horrible neighborhood. Probably not dangerous, but totally yucky. Not to mention not near anything.

Thanks for the input, we will not be staying here. How about the Holiday Inn Golden Gateway 1500 Van Ness Ave? Is that a better option.

Much better option. It's only a couple of blocks from the end of the California Street cable car line. Very popular with tour groups, and conventions. Near Starbucks and Peets Coffee and a multiplex movie theater. Not quaint or charming, but not seedy either. Is there a particular reason you're looking at Holiday Inn(s)?

Van Ness @ California is much better location! The only downside is that you'll have to take 2 buses to your Fulton location.

If you are looking for something inexpensive, Mosser hotel gets recommended here on Fodor's as a budget place, it's close to the bus lines connecting with the Univ.

If you don't mind sharing a bed if the hotel doesn't have a 2 bedded room, I'd get a 4* hotel on Priceline.
Or pay a tad bit more and book the kind of room you want on Hotwire. With a little research you can figure out the hotel you are booking.
