Hilton Sandestin Beach Resort

Has anyone stayed here recently? I tried a search but no info. This place seems appealing because it's right on the beach, and seems suited for my three kids-under 13, and for my husband who golfs. Any info would be appreciated.

Why not rent one of the Sandestin condos rather than stay at the hotel? It seems that with 3 children a condo would be more practical and equally as convenient. I've eaten at the Hilton but never stayed there.

The condo idea sounds interesting.I'm sure it would cut down on the food expense. We've never done the condo thing because of the pool issue. With three kids who like pools and the jumping in and splashing around and all that good stuff, they might be bothering others who are the for R+R.I know friends who do have condos and they say this is a no-no.With the hotel pools they'd be more likely to enjoy themselves. I know they have the beach but they do like pools. I'm probably overthinking this issue. If you have any condo suggestions to suite these needs, I'm all ears. I don't know anything about this area. Thanks.

Kathy, My husband has an annual meeting there, and it is beautiful. They have all kinds of accomodations, and a call to reservations will help you decide on your best option. In the main tower hotel, the rooms have King or Double beds, plus bunk beds. The pools are large. What time of year are you going?

Easter. Do you know if it's a zoo at that time? If it is I guess that's to be expected that time of the year.Any restaraunt ideas? Thanks

We started taking our children to Sandestin years ago...before they'd built any accommodations on the beach side. Our children - like yours - much preferred pools to the ocean and at that time there was one huge pool available to anyone staying in any of the Sandestin condos (all on the bay side). I'd be surprised if there weren't still a pool available. I think on the main Sandestin web page there's a map...you might check it out.

Thanks for the info. What's the area like if we venture out? Outdoor dining is a huge plus. We live on the Jersey Shore and believe it or not in our area there is hardly any outdoor dining, overlooking the water,or otherwise.

Kathy, Easter should not be too crazy. Lots of Alabama families go there on spring break, which is usually the last week of March. And it's too expensive for college spring breakers, so I think it will be manageable. There are lots of resturants in the Destin area. McQuire's Pub has hearty food and a fun atmosphere. Gracias (sp?) had great Italian food. Your kids would also like Joe's Crab Shack. There are several on-the-water resturants, The Back Porch comes to mind. Try to go early, 5-6 pm, and you should avoid long waits. I'm searching my brain for the name of a resturant for breakfast that looks like an old diner, I'm thinking it's called the Sanddollar. My daughter sang a song for the owner, (and the other patrons, to my older daughter horror), and we were rewarded with free breakfasts!

There are outlet malls nearby, if you run into a yucky beach day. But one caution...traffic can be awful! The "main drag" can be packed.

The ocean will probably be too cool still for swimming, but you should have lovely days of sun. Any other questions, I'll try to help.

Oh, and I meant to add, according to my husband, the surrounding golf courses are great! There is even a 3-par course lit for night play.
