Hilton Head Hotel Question
Hi,
We are going to Hilton Head for the first time in the middle of June. We are looking for an affordable hotel on the beach. At this time we are down to The Hilton or the Holiday Inn Oceanfront. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank You.

Have you thought of renting a condo? We did a couple of years ago for about the same price as a room at the Hilton. We were supposed to stay at the Hilton, but because of my brother who has younger kids, we opted for each family getting a two bedroom condo. We stayed in Windsor court condos and rented through Island Getaway. The rental agency was great and the condo was great. I looked up the pics of the places on the internet and then called up and booked it over the phone. I had never been there and rented it blindly. It had a pool and was oceanfront. The condos looked out at the ocean and we had breakfast and lunches in and dinners out every night. The Hilton looked older. I am sure though that it is nicer than any holiday inn. The Westin is supposed to be the best on the island.
I would opt for the condo. I don't like to cook on vacation, and didn't. The condos were decorated nicely and you can get a one,two or three bedroom.

Agreed. We rent through Island Getaway as well. I suppose if you are traveling without kids and prefer the services of a hotel (daily maid service, room service, etc) that makes sense. However if you have more than two people, a condo/house rental is the way to go on Hilton Head - so much more space for your money.

Hi, go to www.vrbo.com for condo rentals on Hilton Head, we did this recently for New Smyrna Beach, FL and there are tons and tons of condo rentals by owners on this site.

I know nothing about the Hilton, though I'd avoid the Holiday Inn. It's at Coligny and North Sea Pines Drive (I believe that's the street name), a very busy intersection. It is right next door to a small public park, so the area in front tends to be crowded. There are full tenant mix shopping centers-and strip malls-directly across the street from the HI, though nothing fancy.
I too recommend you rent a condo or house. Our favorite area is Sea Pines, right down the road from the HI. Take in the Gregg Russell shows under the live oak in Harbortown, or a similar show at Shelter Cove. Both are very popular and parking can be a challenge. Also, Land's End, Salty Dog turf, Sea Pines-beachside, is a good place to view dolphins.
