Highway 395 south
i am planning to drive the entire length of 395 S from Oregon to San diego in June. I plan opn taking two days. My hobby is photography; two questions
1. does the highway have reststops along the way (approx how far apart)?
2. any recommendations for scenic travel spots close to the highway (Bodie would be too far of a sidetrip)?

Driving 395 through Oregon and down to San Diego in two days is a killer. There are rest stops in Oregon every 30 to 50 miles and the scenery is fantastic, but this road is a two lane road at least to Reno by my recollection. I can't imagine how you can take any side trips at all. Have you really looked at the mileage? Can you add another day? Maybe you're just planning on driving straight through,but then you'll miss all the great scenery.

i may take your advice on the 3rd day. To qualify your question about do i realize the mileage (approx 1000); i drove from Chicago to Portland Oregon (2000 miles in 2.5 days ) however that was on Interstate 90 which is beautiful and efficient in the fall. So i rephrase my question;
1. what condition is he highway from Reno south?
2. any advice on fun or funky hotels along the way.

Its been a lot of years since we traveled 395 south of Reno, but once again it is mostly a two lane highway with passing lanes. Sorry I'm no help with "funky hotels". Most of the accomodations are basic motel types and in many cases there are many miles between them. I must admit when I first answered your question I had Highway 97 in the back of my mind which is a much straighter road. Rest stops on 395 may be more rare and definitly more primitive. Are you starting in Pendleton? You're going to see a very scenic part of Oregon, but you won't see many people as this is really a rural area all the way.
