Need some Oregon highway info and recommendations
My wife and I just purchased a 25 foot travel trailer and are planning a trip from northern California up the Oregon coast in mid October. We plan on going as far north as Depoe Bay and then going east to highway 99. My question is: should we take highway 20 from Newport to Corvallis or take highway 126 from Florence to Eugene ? We are aware that it will be rainy and slick and we are hoping to take the road that is the shortest and least curvy as well as the widest. So.. any advice from locals would be very much appreciated !

I go to www.tripchek.com to check on road conditions/construction before I start a trip.

Ooops. www.tripcheck.com. You'll get a travel page at tripchek, but it will not be the one you want.

The most visually pleasing route, and you could go pretty slow as there are no semis, is Or 34 from Waldport to Corvallis..

my favorite among those 3 choices, but you do have the trailer.

You could always take Highway 38 out of Reedsport. At any rate, as you drive up the coast do take highway 38 about 4 miles east to the Dean Creek Elk refuge. There is a big turn around and information kiosk. The best viewing may be beyond the turn around, but it is worth a try. We have seen as many as 50 to 75 elk at a time there, or as few as one. The elk are free to come and go as they please, so they don't always congregate where it is easiest to see them.
