I would like very much to tell you but if I did it wouldn't be hidden. I'll give you a hint. Think parking. Hope this helps!

How much is the daily parking fee?

I have never paid to park at the Hyatt Kauai. Unless they have recently changed this policy, parking is free.

Last time I was there, 3 or 4 yrs ago, no fast food nearby. I brought kids, so meals were expensive. Cheapest meal was at a Mexican restaurant. Don't know if things have changed. We thought room service was a bargain. If you are bringing kids, bring cereal and buy milk. I don't remember any extra hotel charges, except for the spa, which we did'nt do. Had a rental car, but I'm almost sure we did'nt pay for parking. Wonderful place!

I believe when I was there a year ago the resort fee was $12.00 daily and the parking fee was $10.00. Not possitive on the amounts but they are in the ball park. I think perhaps a pot of coffee in your room was $3.50.

We visited the Hyatt when we were there in Sept. Parking was free. Valet parking was not free. We didn't have to park far away to avoid the charge.

Hyatt Kauai's website states:

"Self Parking is $6.00 per day and Valet is $8.00 per day."

How do they enforce that? Is it self-reporting? There didn't seem to be anyone around to ask if you were a guest or a visitor.

I have not stayed there, I just came across it on the website. At the Princeville, they take down your license plate number when you pull up to the front of the hotel or write it down when they check you in (in your room) and then bill you every day for parking (either valet or self-park). The fee was higher there - I want to say $18/day but I would have to check my bill. I can't remember if there is a separate lot for people who are just using the restaurants and bars at the Princeville but I would think that if they saw a car there for an extended period of time that did not match any of the reported license plate numbers, they might either tow it, leave a note on it or contact the rental car company to find out whose it is and then bill that person for parking. I have no idea how strictly any of the hotels enforce these fees at all.

Hey x good response. I'm wondering if we didn't have a problem because we were there in September 2001. I guess they were lucky to get anyone at that time. Pobably didn't want to hassle us since we were the only ones there. The Hyatt was a ghost hotel, I'm telling you.

I was thinking the same thing - maybe at lower occupancy times, they don't bother with extra charges.

We stayed at the Hyatt Kauai this January and were charged for parking; the hotel was probably only 1/4 full. I had no problem paying for valet parking because I felt bad for the employees working there. At that time they were having layoffs of some staff due to the low occupancy from 9/11, and one of the employees said that he just bought a house. (he was worried!) I felt that if I could afford a trip to Hawaii I could give a little extra to help out! But the prior year we stayed at the Hyatt in Dec. and were not charged for parking. (on oversight maybe?) Other than that no resort fees or hidden charges.

Good for you bob I feel the same way about tipping in Hawaii. Many of those hotel staffers are pulling in 2 out of 2 jobs to keep things going.

Visitors must be on the "honor system" for parking fees as there is no parking lot attendant, no automatic gates, no kiosk at the Hyatt (or any of the other major Kauai hotels.) I have never paid to park to attend events there, maybe hotel guests are asked upon arrival if they have a car and then parking fees are added to the bill?

At Kauai hotels hotels parking is not at a premium like it is on Maui and in Waikiki. If the Hyatt is, indeed, charging for parking in their huge unattended lot which is rarely full , then I am disappointed that Kauai has jumped on this tiresome nickel-and-diming bandwagon.
