I have 2 pair of Chacos from last summer. The sole is a bit heavy and since I got the Crocs, I will probably never wear them. I should sell them on ebay.
One of the pair I bought was this adorable red print. Really cute. They had a loop around the big toe.
Well, I call them toe-stranglers now.
They tighten up on my big toes and I have to loosen them up constantly.
I don't recommend that style.

For me the knock-offs do not cut it because they have no arch.
It's the arch and the weight that make them work so well for me, personally.
I could even stand a wee bit more arch...
I was wprried they would flatten after wear, but I have not seen that at all.

If you need arch support, try on a pair of Chacos. They are the best. My physical therapist recommends them to her patients with plantar fasciitis.
And here's the deal on "strangle toe" all you have to do is adjust the shoes to fit perfectly, then with a needle and thread put a tiny stitch where the straps cross to hold it in the exact spot you like. No problems what-so-ever. If you don't like your "clunky sole", order a different sole. There are a few to choose from depending on your sport. Chaco will resole your shoes if you don't like what you have currently. They will also replace any broken straps. Basically the shoes are guaranteed for life.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for all the fast responses. Guess I'll stick with my old tennis shoes and old sandals, both of which have been in sand and water quite often. May have to investigate crocs as well. Thanks again

Not to throw a wet blanket on this, but do you know the weather you're likely to encounter, GJLinda? It ain't gonna be very warm, and there's a reasonable chance you'll get some (or a lot of) rain. And regardless of whether or not it rains, you probably won't want to be sticking your toes in the water. It's bone-chilling cold, even in the middle of summer. I'd plan on wearing walking shoes, but take sandals or cayman crocs in case you get lucky.

I live in So Cal and go to the beach nearly every day, and it's a really rocky beach. I used to wear these tight, ankle-high shoes that I found at a surf shop. But Crocs are my new faves. They are perfect, although my kids wear them with socks to avoid the sand-in-the-shoe feeling.

I went on the crocs website and found the "cleo" style which I bought in chocolate and pink---love em. This is the first time I have ever posted on a website and I'm loving it. I have a few questions on another forum so if you have time give me some ideas. When we get to CA OR and WA next week I will be going barefooted to feel the sand between my toes...the crocs will be in the car. I'll be bringing sand back to Kansas with me...in a baggie not between my toes.
