Grand Cayman Beach/water!

I've heard such great things about the beautiful beaches and crystal blue waters on Grand Cayman. I'm just wondering...when you go in the ocean, is the bottom soft and sandy or rocky? I thought I heard something about rocky coral pieces down there but not sure. Please advise. Thanks. Need to know if we need those water shoes.

We stayed at the Marriott - a lot of rocks so I would suggest beach shoes.
The water color is absolutely amazing on Seven Mile Beach.

Depends on where you go in the water. Most of seven mile beach is sandy. The area closer to Georgetown is more rocky ( treasure island & Comfort Inn ). Stingray city is a sand bar. I would suggest water shoes anyway rocks are likly even in the smoothest sand. $10 at Kmart.

The beach at the Westin was not rocky at all - it was perfect. Although, I wear water shoes no matter what - I'm always afraid I might step on something hiding under the sand!! (I'm paranoid that way)!!
