Help needed for downtown Seattle

We are going to be in Seattle the first of Feb. We are going to the paramount and staying at the Westcoast Grand on 5th ave. First, is the paramount within walking distance? Any concerns walking back after the show to our hotel? (safety concerns) Might anyone know what the dresscode is for a show at the paramount on a saturday evening? Also, would appreciate a link or list of places close by so we can enjoy a fancy dinner before the 8pm show. (again, within walking distance if possible) Thanks to all who answer and help with this for us.

Yes, easily walkable (bring a brolly) and no particular safety concerns (Unless they're acting up at the Sheraton or Hyatt.)

Either you're attending the Apollo Amateur Night or the Producers; in either case the dress code is casual - you see from suits to jeans at the symphony, ballet and opera in Seattle, never mind the Paramount.

"Fancy" is in the eye of the beholder, of course, but you can get good meals at a number of places within a couple of blocks of the hotel or the theater. Go to the theater's website, http://www.theparamount.com and under the "about" heading you can pull up lists of nearby restaurants in a range of cuisines and prices.

Thanks for the info John. We weren't sure how they normally dress at the paramount so appreciate your insight. We will be flying into Seattle the night before. Looking for a nice Italian or Mexican place that is close by (within walking distance). Heard Assagios was nice but also heard it wasn't within walking distance. Is that Palimino any good? Thanks again

Jan, the nicest restaurant in downtown Seattle is probably the Metropolitan Grill, but it's a steakhouse. You could walk but it's not that close.

A wonderful italian spot just up the hill from the Paramount is Machiavelli; it is NOT fancy but has fantastic food, it's more of a neighborhood restaurant. Unfortunately, they do not take reservations and it's not large, so it gets jam-packed. One idea would be to get to Machiavelli right at 5pm, when they open -- no wait, great food -- then walk down the hill to the Camlin Hotel and take the elevator to the top floor, where the "Cloud Room" bar is located; since you'll still have time before the show, have an after-dinner drink. It is a pricey but nice bar, with views to downtown, and it's right across the street from the Paramount. DON'T have dinner here, though, the food is not good.

Also up the hill from the Paramount is a restaurant called Tango, it's sort of mediterranean/spanish, very nice (fancier than Machiavelli) and the food was good (I've only eaten there once).

We have eaten at Assagio and it was wonderful. I'm sorry I can't help with location...the men drove and we weren't paying attention.

Assaggio is around 7 blocks (.3 mile) from the Paramount. It's very good, but it may be a little slow paced for a pre-theater dinner, though of course you can go in at 5:30 and have tons of time.

It's a chain, but a good one - Il Fornaio, located in the Pacific Place shopping center, at 600 Pine, a few blocks closer to the Paramount. They have a fancy upstairs and a less-fancy (but still very good) place downstairs - we've never had a bad meal there.

You could walk to Assagio. It is about 7 blocks from there to the Paramount. So, although walkable you may find yourself pressed for time with an 8 o'clock curtain. I can recommend the 727 Pine. It is less than two blocks from the theater, and is on the most direct walking route from your hotel to the theater. This will give you more time for your dinner. Beyond that, of all the places mentioned in previous posts, it, in my opinion, has the best food and fits the definition of "fancy". I think the dining room and bar are extremely attractive. It, however, is not Italian. (Palomino, which is lively and a pleasant enough place, is not fancy nor is it Italian. I would describe it as more of a "drop-in-after-work, or drop-in-after-shopping kind of place.) Machiavelli can also be lively, but I have been disappointed with the food.

Thanks everyone for your help. This is so much appreciated.
The gal at the Westcoast on 5th avenue said they were about 3 blocks from the Paramount. Is this Il Fornaio in the same direction of the paramount (from our hotel). anyone know if they have a website?
