HELP! Need quick response about the drive from Newark to Schenectady

My father has to make this drive, but is terrified of driving over bridges. He just can't do it. He is thinking of taking the train. This, however, turns a 2.5 hour drive into a 5 hour extravaganza. So, for anyone that has made this drive, are there any large bridges? We have to make some plans today.

I live in Schenectady and cannot think of any big bridges, since we're on the same side of the Hudson (west) and of the Mohawk (south).

I HAD to make a stop in Parsippany NJ last time I drive, but used I-280 west, to I*287 north, to NYS Thruway, continue to exit #25 Only tolls on the NYSThruway.

I believe he can take the Garden State Parkway to the Thruway (87). He will not have to cross the Hudson River but I can't guarantee that there will be no bridges anywhere along the way.

No big bridge over water. However, if he takes the NJTP north out of Newark, there's long stretches of elevated roadway to I-80.

To avoid that, take the Garden State north instead of the NJTP.
