Will be leaving tomorrow AM for a ride along Maine coast to Bar Harbor. I would love to hear about anybody's fav lobster place or any other place off the beaten path...

Not sure what the name of the place was but it was on a pier in Baath, Maine. A very small, dive bar looking place with fresh seafood and lobsters for about 6 bucks EACH! We had two 1 1/4 lb lobsters each for about 12 bucks a person. IT was yummy!

Like JJason, we found lobster for a good price, $8 for 1 1/4 lbs, in Bass Harbor at a little place down by the fishing wharf. It's on the same peninsula as Bar Harbor, but far removed from the grid lock and touristy atmosphere of its more famous sister city.

We had lobster at a 'rough' lobster pound in Boothbay Harbor, ME. They have the lobsters divided up by size in different tanks - you pick out your lobster & they cook 'em up...wonderfully fresh. We also shipped some back home to some friends from there. We loved Boothbay Harbor, stayed at the Tugboat Inn & watched the 'tallships' in the harbour. We had just missed Windjammer Days & some were still there. A lovely town...

that might have been the place but still unsure of the name. It's literally on a pier with picnic table seating and thats about it. I can still see the butter running down my chin from the lobster.....yummy. And it's not too far from Newport or Freeport or whatever...the home of LL Bean.

If you're driving through Freeport, stop at the Harraseekett Lunch and Lobster. The outdoor dining area overlooks the harbor where you can watch lobster boats, huge yachts and every other type of watercraft pass by. You can order a lobster dinner, steamers, crab roll, fried oysters...the menu is large and varied.
You can stop at LL Bean's (about 7 minutes down the road) too.

Fresh lobster can't be beat. It's like that old saw about the gal and the french tickler--once you've had it that way, there's no going back!
