HEY NO NEED TO YELL! WE'RE NOT DEAF, WE JUST DON'T LISTEN VERY WELL.
Hawaiian Princess seems to have gotten pretty good reviews on tripadvisor.com, have you tried there? Waianae is known to be a troubled area, I don't know that I would recommend it if it's your first time to Hawaii.

Waianae wouldn't be my choice either. But it is close to the famous north shore beaches (Sunset Beach, Ehukai (Banzai Pipeline), Pupukea (Shark's Cove) Waimea, Laniakea (Turtle Beach) and others.
The island is not very big, so you'll be able to explore most of it no matter where you stay.
Lots of info that might help you find things to do:

dusty maybe you are thinking of Waialua, not Waianae. Waianae is closer to KoOlina Resort not the North Shore beaches.
The areas surrounding the Hawaiian Princess are very economically depressed. They are probably bargain priced for this reason.
The Makaha Princess is a timeshare? I didn't realize that?
