I too thought Ka'anapali Beach was just OK. I personally think Oahu has some of the best beaches in HI.

Suze - I love Oahu as well...we have been three times and it is a favorite.

Patty - we love Oahu - we did enjoy some of the beaches on Kauai though...one of my best travel memories is swimming with the sea turtles at keke beach in Kauai...

Has anyone been to Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa? I am wondering about that beach...(Maui)

I've stayed in Wailea but not at the Marriott. IIRC there's no beach directly in front of that Marriott but there are beaches adjacent.

Are you looking to use Marriott points? If so, have you looked at the Ritz Carlton Kapalua?

Wailea has one lovely beach after the other. The Marriott there is built farther out on lava than you could build today. (Same with Sheraton at Kaanapali.) Consequently the 'oceanfront' rooms are almost IN the ocean. Good beaches on each side. Nice adults-only infinity pool. Steps to Shops At Wailea (upscale mall with Starbucks to Tommy Bahama to Tiffany's to convenience store with deli items). Wailea also has new Hyatt Andaz, the Fairmont, Grand Wailea (too 'Hollywood set' for me), and Four Seasons.

We really liked the Grand Hyatt - which is on a nice, but non-swimmable, beach. The rooms are fairly standard, but the common areas are very nice, much much nicer than the Kauai Marriott (which we didn't really like -- a little tired for our taste and a little plain after the Grand Hyatt).

Friends of ours who have very good taste stayed at the Four Seasons Big Island and declared it the best hotel they've ever stayed at.

My sister-in-law just posted on Facebook about snorkeling at Wailea Beach. She said it was fabulous.

If you have not been to Kauai - you are really missing something. Suggest you consider it for a few days - as it's small and easy to get around and only a 20 minute flight from Oahu.

The North Shore is especially beautiful and Oct usually has great weather. Check out the award winning movie - South Pacific - 1958 by Rogers & Hammerstein - a WWII love/musical/drama. Filmed at the lush North Shore - with Bali Hai views.

The St. Regis is very nice - as is the Hanalei Bay resort next door (condos) as is our old timeshare - the Cliffs Club at Princeville.
