It's not a very tourist friendly walk, but it is walkable, I'm guessing 15 minutes. You go along the busy 17th Street then have to sort of wind through some residential area. I'm not sure exactly where you access public beach from there.
One time when you're riding the glass elevators to the revolving lounge at 66, think of me the time the elevator got stuck near the top because we were overloaded. People outside pulled up their lawn chairs and watched us as if waiting for us to fall, while we waited nearly an hour for the OTIS repair man to drive up from Miami. But that was a fluke many years ago. We've stayed there numerous times, but generally prefer the lanai rooms rather than the tower ones.

Patrick-I thought the lanai rooms looked nice from the outside and I love the gronds around that area, but everything I've read here talks about staying in the tower instead...which is the only place we've stayed. I wonder why everyone leans in that direction? The view perhaps? Like our casitas, I'd think the lanai rooms would offer more privacy and be less hotel-like.
Speaking of shows from the elevator...when the Hyatt Reunion first opened in Dallas, some guy thought it'd be fun to do a strip tease for the guests in the lobby...so he did, plastering himself to the glass once he got it all off. Oh the stories that have come from DH's career!

Yes, OO, I've stayed in both and I prefer the lanai rooms -- but guess I don't care about the view so much any more. You know I've never stayed in one your casitas -- maybe I need to do a trip to Tampa soon.
About that elevator. Nope, Scarlett, no mime. The problem was we were so jammed in the thing we couldn't move. It really was frightening. After we pushed the button and got an operator, we were all joking and said, "we're stuck. Send up some drinks". But when nothing happened and we rang again, the operator said, "Oh, I thought you were joking. You really are stuck?" We had a young girl screaming with fear and an older lady who wanted us all to sign a paper and get a lawyer together. It was not a pleasant experience. I guess the worst was when we finally got to the top, all we got out of it was a lot of dirty looks for having taken so much time with the elevator!
